She stands up slowly, water dripping off her in a light patter. Slowly she spreads her arms, lifting them up in supplication. "Look," she says. "Look. The girl is clean! Now she is Aphrodite, rising from the sea."
Jayne stares at her in disbelief. He tries hard to reign in his emotion and in the most even voice he can manage he asks "What?"
She frowns and any trace of suggested divinity is gone. "Had to undergo metamorphosis," she explains, scratching at her scalp. He wonders if she's trying to get his feelings out of her head. Daintily she pulls up her sopping skirt and steps out of the tub. Though the dress is plastered to her soft, gently curved body, the only thing Jayne thinks of when he sees her is a drowned rat. "Now she is changed."
"Yeah, you're wet," he says spitefully. "What kind o' change is that?"
She frowns again and takes a step forward. "Man-called-Jayne is displeased? The girl is still unprepared?"
"Wha... Unprepared? What the hell's that s'posed to mean?" He stares at her, amazed that she is still going on with her deranged prattle. "Are you... Girl, you tryin' to say you're doin' this for me?"
"Yes." She nods fervently, her stringy hair stuck to her cheeks. "For you. Did not want the girl as she was. But now I am - "
"Shut up!" he roars. "Y'think I'm gonna want you just 'cause you took a bath? Just a ruttin' bath?"
Her lip trembles slightly and she fists her hands into the wet fabric at her sides. "Must have a hero. I am adrift, lost at sea - you will save me. You will - "
"No!" He advances on her like a conquering army. "I ain't here to save you, girl; I don't care about you an' I never will." He grabs her arm and she cries out in pain. He yanks her towards him but she tries desperately to get away and instead topples to the floor.
"Is this what you want?" he cries. "This what you near 'bout drowned yourself for? Me?" He sneers. "Well you got it. This is me."
She whimpers a little, edging away from him. Her eyes have lost their cloudy glow and he knows she is staring to come back to reality.

-Notes: So yeah. Still in a funk, so still writing like a mad woman. (I think I'll probably wind up doing something this weekend, maybe going to a movie or something... Though I sort of want to be a growly, curmudgeonly hermit and hide in my cave.) But yeah. Heh. Today fan-fiction was more important than learning. *laughs* (It's not my fault that class is so boring. I paid attention in the others, so that counts for something. Hee.) Erm... What was I saying. Oh! The story. Right.
It's still untitled. But I think this is going to be the final direction. This (and the first bit) is a really rough draft - there's a lot I like, but at the same time a lot I think I'm going to change (or not so much change as expound on). Right-o. Naps. Then groceries. Then more writing. HUZZAH!
(Random note - it's unseasonably warm today. Blahr.)
