Hey.

No wonder your drabble slipped slid right under my radar, it’s quite recent. I went on a “Merlin” fanfic bender ‘bout 4-5 weeks back…Well, I’m really pleased I didn’t miss out on this gem! You should be proud of this baby. People shouldn’t take drabble too lightly.

They’re easy to dissect, which works to my benefit, hee. Here we go:

The day Morgana left, the castle swarmed around the apparent victor.

Oh yes, I like that. Apparent victor.

However, Arthur stands to lose the most. Not the women.

Seeing as how Morgana’s “magical thralls” have been revealed publicly, she would’ve fled to the Druids, most probably. Where she’ll find favourable reception and acceptance, most probably.

The servants buzzed excitedly about good old Gwen; one of their own moving up in the world

Whoo, that last bit of the line definitely adds punch. Cool, you saw it from the servants’ point of view.

Many remarked how Gwen, a personal friend of mine you understand, surely remembers that favour she owes me…

Wow, this just gets better and better! How do you manage suspense and intrigue in under a 100 words?

This makes me wanna think harder. How did Gwen oust Morgana from Camelot, and why?

More importantly, whose thoughts are these?

The court spoke in sugary tones of Guinevere’s modest temperament.

Sugary. I like that. Expert use of adjectives…It changes the whole tone of the line.

They remembered the stinging barbs of her former lady.

Ouch. It’s incredible, really, how ungrateful the human race can be. Or should I say…the plebeian? Morgana’s as compassionate as Arthur is of the people’s plights…Tsk, tsk.

…broken friendships, true love, and later, naïve princes seduced by magical thralls

Okay, this is where I’m gonna give away the fact that I’m a Arthur/Morgana shipper. So you know where I stand =]

But when you say “broken friendships”…you’re referring to Arthur and Morgana’s, as well as Gwen and Morgana’s, right?

They could not have peaceably parted ways.

I’ve not seen the last two episodes of “Merlin”, yet, but I think that that’s what’s gonna happen; it’s what’s most likely.

And you’ve just broken my heart again. But in a good way; sometimes, I need to get my head out of the clouds =) And this line brought me back to reality without delay.

This feels likely, too. That Morgana would have to go away because there’s no room OR future for her in Camelot anymore. She would have to leave Arthur to Gwen’s tender mercies, though…

Wow, thank you so much for your awesomely detailed review!

I'm sorry I haven't replied before now, this cold is kicking my ass.

I wanted to keep it ambiguous about whether Morgana was forced away (and if so whether it was by Gwen or Uther) or whether she decided to leave.

As to whose POV the story’s from; it’s from the perspective of the castle (“hive”) as a whole.

That’s why it shows what the more general reaction to her departure was instead of the people who were actually involved (Arthur, Gwen, Morgana and Uther).

It’s more about the hive’s reaction than the actual events; everyone is more concerned over how the events effect them (the servants are happy one of their own was chosen, that nobles that they don’t have to deal with Morgana’s cutting wit anymore, etc.) than what really happened.

Hopefully this actually answered some of your questions (if it didn’t, ask some more and I’ll get back to you when I’m not on cold & flu drugs and coughing up a lung).

Thank you so much for clearing up the confusion. Boy am I glad that we can interact like this, it makes explanations so much easier.

After reading what I first wrote to you, and after watching the 1st season finale of "Merlin", I find that I pity both Arthur and Morgana. And not just Arthur. Or Morgana, for that matter. It's a crying shame really.

Will you be writing anymore Arthur/Morgana drabbles? I'm loving your drabbles!
