The Kingdom of the Blaggers by
hackthisFandoms: Merlin/Entourage and some RPS
Main Pairing: Merlin Emrys/Arthur Pendragon
Rating: NC-17
Author’s Summary: The problem with being the son of Uther Pendragon, legend of stage and screen, winner of Emmys (twice), Tonys (once), Oliviers (multiple), BAFTAs (twice), Oscars (once) and People's Sexiest Man (twice) was that nobody was ever going to take Arthur seriously as an actor in his own right.
What’s the deal? : Modern AU with the Merlin characters set in the Hollywood of Entourage (so some real person Hollywood-types also make an appearance).
Why you should read it: It’s fun, hot and hilarious. The Merlin characters aren’t the ones we’re familiar with from the show, but the adjustments make sense due to their new setting. (For example, Arthur isn’t as responsible in this ’verse. But being the spoilt brat of a famous actor, why would he be?) They fit more naturally into the Entourage universe than I would have anticipated. And the Ari/Merlin interaction is freaking hysterical.
"Hello."
"Arthur?"
"No, it's Merlin, who's speaking?"
"Merlin, my favourite trannie with the handle bar ears for driving, it's Ari Gold. Where's our boy?"
"Our boy?"
"Are you slow? Why am I asking? You're English; I should be glad you've got all your teeth. Our boy. What's mine is mine, and now, what's yours in mine. Which means Arthur is mine. Put him on the fucking phone, Rapunzel, before I lock your ass away where Arthur can't fuck it anymore."
"Ari, I'm going to come down there and-"
Seriously, go read it.
Breaking the laws of classical aerodynamics by
black_eyedgirlFandoms: Gossip Girl/X-Men
Main Pairing: Dan/Chuck
Rating: PG-13
Author’s Summary: The sign reads ‘Constance Billard and St Jude’s School for the Gifted’. Dan isn’t feeling particularly gifted today. Fusion with X-Men, i.e. Gossip Girl characters and X-Men setting, no crossover characters.
What’s the deal? : As stated above, the kids from GG have X-Men style mutations and go to a Xavier’s School for the Gifted type institution to learn how to control them.
Why you should read it: The various mutations add really interesting and unexpected dimensions to the characters and their interactions. The characters are still themselves, but I think this gives them a lot more depth. The main romance is also relatively sweet without becoming saccharine and OOC, which is no small feat considering the characters involved.
He discovers a few things about Blair in the class. She’s really smart - she hates biology, but she’s passing well anyway. She’s an animal lover. She doesn’t like dissections either. And when she’s not paying enough attention her skin changes colour.
The scalpel slips, and her elbow jolts. Dan tries to catch her arm and it startles her. He thinks, for a moment, that they’ve spilt something: the back of her hand turns bruise-blue.
She seems him looking, snatches her hand away, and Dan watches the colour turn back to pale pink.
“What are you looking at?” she asks. She’s practically hissing at him.
“Nothing,” he says. He thinks about waving his hand through the desk, to see if that will make her feel better. He doesn’t.
Endless Days (Series) by
FayJay aka
pandarusFandoms: Sandman/Pirates of the Caribbean
Characters: Ensemble from both fandoms
Rating: Varies from story to story
Author’s Summary: None for the full series but there are succinct summaries for the individual stories
What’s the deal? : The Endless visit various Pirates of the Caribbean characters and slide seamlessly in and out of that universe, as they exist out of space and time.
Why you should read it: These are essentially lyrical and languid character studies. The stories follow the characters’ adventures after the films and the varied tones are very appropriate to each of them. Also, Elizabeth gets to be a BAMF and I love me some Lizzie Swann.
Except from
Despair: Of His Bones Are Coral Made:
Cutler Beckett was a pragmatist. A businessman. He knew in his very marrow that everything has a price, and everyone can be bought. Nobility, honour, aristocracy, love - these were pretty words with no weight. The only real power lay in money. The currency of the land, as he had explained to Elizabeth Swann, was - currency. The immaterial, whether God or monster, was immaterial.
So he had always believed. Now he does not know what to believe. He has become something impossible, something slimy and pitiful and powerless, like the wretches he had disdained aboard the Dutchman. He has gills now, strange fluting flaps of skin he can slide a finger inside. His limbs have grown flat and attenuated, more like flippers than flesh. There are barnacles clustering on his back.
One cannot weep, at the bottom of the sea. Not when one is breathing tears already.
These crossover combinations shouldn't work and yet somehow, they are awesome.
Check them out, I doubt you'll be disappointed.
