I was reading over my past LJ posts recently and was embarrassed by what I found. My teens were a very different time, and not necessarily something I need to broadcast. Since many of my old entries painted me as more or less a totally hectic bitch, I decided it would be a good idea to hide the vast majority of my updates from the past decade.
While I don't wish to erase them entirely as this journal's history is the one of the few things that offer continuity to my life, there are many chapters that have been closed and I'd rather have them stay that way. The chronology of the changes throughout my personal history are good for posterity, but not really something I want to relay to possible future professional contacts.
