October 31
We were roused early this morning by the Crimson Mask. Our ship was ready, and the Tenebrousites departed only a short time before. As we exited Guido's apartment, we were flanked by ten more Crimson Masks, guarding us on our way to the harbor. The weather is cold, and the sea is choppy. The going will be rough, but the pilot says it will take us about two hours to catch up to them.
Later...
We came up alongside the ship full of night goblins. We were prepared for a battle, but our ship turned away from them, and their ship turned away from us. Then, from out across the sea, we heard the horn, and the waves got rougher. An enormous whirlpool formed, going straight down to the bottom. It pulled us in, but we were able to stay out of its pull. With no other course of action, and with the ship circled round, we rammed their ship. From this close, we could see Angela tied down, and the Elven woman holding a black dagger over her, chanting something. We boarded, and a bloody battle ensued.
In the bottom of the whirlpool was blackness, out of which tentacles of darkness reached. They crept up over the sides of the ships, reaching towards our sister, laid out for sacrifice. And then, something amazing happened. Angela freed herself from her bonds, and began wielding the power of Maduin himself. Hessen, standing before her, was reduced to nothing, and Maduin manifested in the air above the ship, fighting the spirit of Tenebrous. But Fial, having wrested the dagger from the Elven woman, threw it at Maduin, mortally wounding him.
Suddenly, we were floating a great distance above the ships, and Maduin was there above us. He was fading from life, and was using the last of his energy to save us. He told us that he had left part of his spirit within Angela, and asked us to protect her until she becomes an adult -- I almost cried from joy. He then told us that in death, he would be reborn, freeing him, and freeing us from our curse. He charged us with finding his essence, which would be scattered across the world; as much as I'd like to return home now that this is all over, we can't refuse this. He sank the ships beneath the waves with an enormous tidal wave, and whisked us away through the lifestream.
We all awoke on an unfamiliar shore. Angela smelled something -- like water flower fire, she said -- and pointed us towards it. We soon came upon a road, there was a roadsign, indicating we were in Hiralla, the next province south. We are now in the city of Middenheim, resting and reflecting on our adventures so far.
This is the last session we'll have for a couple months, and the end of the first major story arc.
