Soooooo, here's what I've been up to:
- The Friday before John's Island, we had a surprise party for my mom. It went extremely well, and she never had a clue.
- Saturday the 9th through the 16th was John's Island, easily one
of my favorite experiences every summer. This year we had 45
people and worked on 11 different sites in 4 1/2 days. So crazy
and so amazing. It was hot and humid and worth every second of
it. I worked on the same site all week where we: took apart the
bathroom, tore out the old floor, jacked up and leveled the house,
drained 6 inches of water from under the house, installed a sump pump,
reinforced the floor joists, put down new plywood in the bathroom and
bedroom, put down linoleum in the bathroom, re-drywalled the bedroom
(including 3 coats of mud), put the bathroom back together (Margot and
my vanity was GORGEOUS), fixed a leaky toilet, and put new plumbing
under the sink.
Going down there always makes me more thankful for what I have.
To see the conditions that some people live in renews my desire to help
those less fortune than me as part of my career. It also makes me
want to go into the Peace Corp. But Mom and Dad don't like that
idea so much. Hrmph.
This years trip also reinforced some things that I've come to realize
over the past year. That there is not much left in Jefferson for
me. Peoples viewpoints here infuriate me sometimes. And
that I just can't deal with being around some people anymore. But
I guess this happens as you grow up and grow out.
Continuing on:
- Ben came in the afternoon after we got back from South
Carolina. That 15 minute wait after I got to the airport was the
longest 15 minutes of my life. My heart was pounding so hard I
thought it might just explode. "Absence, with all its pains, is,
by this charming moment, wiped away" (James Thomson). That about
sums it up. That first hug was the best feeling in the
world. So we came back here and had dinner with the WHOLE family
(grandmas, aunts, uncle, cousins).
- Monday we just kinda hung out at my house. I was still
really tired from the week before, so that worked out well.
Tuesday, we drove around most of the county. We went to the mall
(haha), Geneva on the Lake (Eddie's for lunch), Rapid Photo, the beach,
then to work for an hour while Jaymee had a meeting. We came back
for dinner and then took Rita back to the pool with us for a
while. Good times. Wednesday morning was a 4 AM wakeup
call, then off to the airport.
And then he was gone, again.
So I went back to work on Wednesday and that's been about it. My
birthday is in a week. (oh ya-Ben got me Red Sox ticket for my
birthday!!!! :-D ) August 11th and Coldplay and Marisa and
Laura are 2 1/2 weeks away, yay!!!. September 4th is a month and
a week
away.
That's about it, I think. Goodnight.
