The week is finally winding down. And I will be exceedingly glad when this one is over, for a multitude of reasons. Mostly, two whole days to sit and do (almost) nothing. I do need to clean house, but that won't take the whole weekend. And then I can catch up on TV, call some friends, write some smut, play with the dog and the cats, maybe see a movie... you know... the fun stuff.
Quick opinion poll, before I get to the TV reviews. I'm considering getting vanity plates. They're only $44, so it's not a horrid amount, and it might be fun to see people's reaction if/when they figure it out. As long as that reaction doesn't involve a stake and a bonfire (considering it's Kansas, and very, very bible-belty). So. The two options I have come up with - and I'm not even guaranteed that they're not taken until I apply - are: option #1 - GOODWCH, or option #2 - WCHYWMN. I supposed option #3 would be "vanity plates are so passe," or something along the lines. Or make a suggestion! Just curious what people think.
And, now for Thursday's line-up. Short day; there's only three, and one has been canceled already.
Alias - As much as I have loved the show, it's probably good that this will be the last season. I miss Vaughn (even though I still don't quite believe he's really dead), I miss Eric... and, while I don't actively dislike the new characters, they're going to take some getting used to, and I'm just not sure I'm willing to invest that much time and energy into this show. You know, again. It took me most of the season to like Nadia, and she's pretty much gone, too. It's been fun, and I'll always love the re-runs (and DVDs), but I think they're doing the right thing hanging it up now. I'm not planning to join any "save the show" campaigns. It just seems like they're starting all over again, but with a less badass Sydney. My guess? The writers heard that the TWoPers consistently call Sydney the "worst spy ever," and took it as a challenge. Although, she did get to sleep with Sark, and that's gotta be worth something. The new guy is just a waste of space. Eye candy maybe, but otherwise his only function is to kick ass since JG couldn't when she was 10 months pregnant. Then there's the other chick that we've seen in - I think - four episodes? Correct me if I'm wrong. And, with so little to work with, I have no idea if I like her or not. She's a more wooden Sydney, with an accent and even bigger daddy issues. I'm watching for closure more than anything else right now; I want to meet the baby, see the bad guys caught or killed, have Vaughn avenged or revealed to be alive and well and living in Canada, see Nadia up and well again, and maybe have Irina back for an episode or two... just to help close out the series. I don't even really need or want a "happy ending" - happy endings are just stories that haven't finished yet. Leave it open for fanfic... like they could stop us, but it also nicely leaves them open for movies, too.
CSI - Much like Wednesdays shows, it doesn't really have much of a cohesive story-line to follow from episode to episode. Still... it's the first, and still the best. I can't not love Gil, even if I never really liked the beard. Speaking of facial hair - is there a reason for the mustache? It is the most distracting thing ever, and it does nothing for George Eads. It looks like a caterpillar got stuck under his nose. I read a rumor near the beginning of the season that he was filming a movie, but that was a while ago. And how could he find time to do that in the middle of the tv season? I don't know why it bugs me as much as it does, but I just can't seem to ignor it. Maybe, if it lasts three or four seasons (like the beard), it'll grow on me. Heh. Okay, uh... so. Sara seems to be doing a little better this season. They need to resolve the Grissom/Sara thing sometime soon, one way or another. They've been dancing around it for six years, and I know the rule of thumb is RST = loss of interest, but I think they sometimes push the UST too far trying to avoid the first trap. (And yes, I realize that many of my "ships" - Grissom/Sara, Garrett/Jordan, Gibbs/Kate, and Buffy/Giles - indicate that I have some kind of daddy complex.) I can't believe Catherine has been as blase as she has been about her move back as Grissom's subordinate. Don't get me wrong - I hated having the team all split up - but I, personally, would be pretty pissed about the demotion. But, Catherine always struck me as someone who'd stand up for herself if she needed to, so maybe she didn't like being in charge. Not sure what to think of the wife yet... I need to see her again. (We've only seen her once, right? or did I miss her at some point when The Mustache was passing by?)
Nightstalker - Well, it got more of a chance than Kitchen Confidential, but not by much. I never saw the original, so I wasn't immediately disappointed in it the way some were, but - I'll admit - it never really grabbed my attention the way some other things did. I liked it well enough, but it was never going to be in the same category as, say Supernatural was. I'm not sure what they could have done to make it more attractive to other viewers, but I would have continued to watch it. It was one that would have turned out much like Close to Home, watching-habit-wise. I'd watch over the weekend, if I had nothing more pressing to do, and if I didn't get to the recorded eps on the DVR for a week or two, so be it. I wasn't married to it, but I was still sorry to see it go.
You know, thinking about all the stuff I have on my DVRs, I'm starting to wonder how the Nielson rating system has adapted to that sort of thing, if they have at all. I can record up to three things at once; is that taken into account? Do they give greater weight in the ratings to what people watch as it airs as opposed to later? (Which would be useless with me - even if I want to watch it as it airs, I wait until about 15 mins into the episode so I can fast-forward through commercials.) Not that it really matters, since I'm not a Nielson family, I'm just curious.
Anyway, 0530 is going to come mighty early in the morning, so I'm gonna toddle off now.
Kisses...
