Writing is hard

I'm so frustrated with my original writing. I'm having a really hard time finding the voice, the style, that suits the story best. it seems like certain scenes come out one way, and other another way.

I really want to have it whipped into some semblance of order before the official start of NaNaWriMo. I have pages and pages of handwritten notes and poorly labelled files on the computer that need to be wrassled into some kind of coherent story. I can't even figure out WHERE and WHEN to start telling the story since I jump back and forth between present day and what happened twenty years earlier.

I hope to be able to do SOME this year. Maybe i'll take some sick days to get some more time in. Im just so fried after a day of work on the computer.

Any advice for finding a voice? For writing around it until something sticks?

What I really need is someone to be sitting here in the living room with me, listening to me as I pace and rant. Somebody who's read the stuff i've written and knows what I'm trying to say (god knows someone should know) and will take notes on my ranting and direct me. I've had two friends who would do that for me. And it helps so much!

Volunteers? Free room and board in Bangkok if you can get here.
