Summary: Helen, Nikola and a lack of sleep.

It's late, or possibly early, or possibly, at this point, sometime a little after noon. They've lost track of the time and neither of them are really sure. Nor, for that matter, do they really care.

Both of them are too consumed by the map, by it's secrets, by everything that Hollow Earth could hold.

But Helen isn't thinking straight anymore and Nikola is falling asleep on his feet.

"I can't actually determine what this says," Helen realizes as she stares into the pages of a book, blinking and rubbing her eyes.

Nikola walks over, a cup of coffee in his hands. Helen hasn't been reduced to coffee yet but she doesn't know how many cups of tea she's had either.

"Words," Nikola informs as he takes a drink. "They are words. I can tell you that much."

She rolls her eyes. "Thank you, Nikola, that's very helpful."

He laughs. "I'm sorry, I stopped being able to process anything but symbols about half an hour ago. Give me a minute."

"We should probably sleep," Helen remarks, getting to her feet and stretching. She is more than sure they should, it's just a matter of if they are actually going to do it or not.

"We should," Nikola agrees. But the question is will we?"

They exchange a look, then peer at the map before them.

No, no they won't.

"Some people would call this obsessive, Nikola remarks, downing the rest of his coffee in one gulp. "Personally, I think I'm going with 'dedicated' but I thought I would point that out."\

Helen chuckles to herself. "Dedicated is certainly the term I'd prefer. Besides, I highly doubt most people get themselves into the situations we do."

"That is true," he agrees, "Are you sure you don't--"

"No," Helen says quickly. "I don't care how tired I am, you're still not getting me to drink that dreadful coffee."

"Suit yourself."

They each walk around the room, stretching their muscles and trying in vain to wake themselves up.

"This may be a hopeless endeavour," Helen points out when she settles at her table again, just as tired as she had been before. Her eyes feel heavy and she is trying to repress a yawn with little success.

"The map or waking up," Nikola questions, staring at his coffee cup with a disheartened expression.

"Staying awake," she says. "I have no doubts we'll figure out the map. We may just need to call a hiatus first."

Nikola considers this, then considers Helen, himself and, f8nally, his cup. "Do you actually think you'll be able to stop thinking about it long enough to get any real sleep," he questions curiously. "Becuase I don't actually know that I could."

She don't answer for a moemnt. "I think that, if I lay down, I'll at least get a couple of hours of sleep before I'm on my feet again."

He nods. "So we break then?"

"At least for two or three hours. I'd really like the ability to process words to return to me."

He smiles at her. "And I'd like to get hte taste of coffee out of my mouth."

"RIght then," she gets to her feet, starting for her rooms. "Good night, Nikola."

He seems to be following her, a slight grin on his face.

Turning to look at him, she peers at him. "And where are you going?"

"You said we were going to sleep," he points out. "I'm just going to go to sleep."

She rolls her eyes. "Good night<'/i>, Nikola."
