Hello, dolly

Yes, I know this is from next week, but a. It's the only pic I have on my hard drive right now, and b. Like you expected me to resist.

Well, that was different from the first draft. The old pilot was a lot more upfront with stuff that the new pilot is giving up piecemeal. Still intriguing as hell, though. Although, in case I haven't said this enough, I am still not crazy about the concept because I have nothing to cling to from an emotional standpoint. Not crazy about resets, frankly. Also, CREEPY.

Eliza - She wasn't completely convincing as Schoolmarm Hostage Negotiator, but that's part of the point, yes? That she's not a real hostage negotiator, just someone's image of one. If that was the point, then yeah, Eliza's a better actor than I anticipated. Her blank-eyed stare is scary.

Olivia Williams - Wonderfully chilling, and she totally sold the stone-cold creepiness of the Dollhouse without going over the top. Of course, the woman has a nutguard courtesy of Rushmore, so it's not like I was going to be super-critical, but she never played a seeming baddie before. Impressive. Although the drastic weight loss does make her look like Elizabeth Hurley's less crazy-eyed sister.

Tahmoh Penikett - Boring, boring, boring, although God bless the muay Thai scene. But I hope he gets stuff to do. As it stands, though, he looks like he's the one most likely to go all Wesley, so all is good.

The guy who played Topher - He's the second coming of Andrew, everybody!

Harry Lennix - Hi there, second coming of Giles!

Amy Acker - So she's just a guest? There's not much of her, but I hope she goes baddie as well. She's much more compelling as a baddie. Her alternate name is Alpha - does this mean she was the first Doll? Is she still under mind control? Meh, apparently I got this wrong. Still, I think her character's under mind control, too.

Joss - Was a little bored, gotta be honest. But intrigued. The second episode better BRING IT, though, considering it seems to be engineered specially for me (MATT!!!!). Yes, the world does revolve around me, thanks for noticing.

In food news, spent morning with slaybelle and paigan at Salcedo Village market (aka My Happy Place) eating everything in sight. Most notable food discovery was fro yo from a cart sold by a guy named David Einstadt. The berry flavor was amazing. The strawberry was a very light, lovely sorbet-tasting treat. The vanilla was made with real vanilla beans and tasted like Yakult ice cream. I want more.

And ETA the second episode teaser:
