i'm in that tired-hyper mode right now...my suitcase is lying on the floor, mostly filled and running out of space, my checklist is nearly checked, and my ipod is newly updated; i am leaving for austin tomorrow, to the land of sunshine, barbecue (ew), sxsw, and friends. i packed shorts and i can't wait to use 'em.
before i head off into this scarily large state that as of now remains a mystery, i want to replay the last few days. i had a really fun weekend. after work on thursday, i ran outside and met up with joy, ben, and dave, and then we went further downtown to the west village and met jake and tye for mexican food (yes, i actually found something to eat at a mexican place), after which most of us headed back to my apartment to smoke, chill out, listen to ghosts, do arts and crafts (well, joy always finds a way to do that), and marvel at the size of objects in the universe. joy also presented me with arm warmers that match the scarf she previously made, and a kick-ass crazy hoodie made of a skull-patterned fleece!
on friday, as a last-minute decision, i went up in jake's van to his "country house" in rockland with ben, nora, vera, who i hadn't seen in years, tye, and julian. we made a pitstop at my house so i could grab my own car, and then ben and i drove up the rest of the way together in the rain. it was so nice to have some ben/amy conversation time. since it continued to rain all night, we stayed inside of the beautiful house in the woods...well, kind of in the woods. the last and only other time i was there was in may of 2006 for the stevedores album release/post-graduation pool party, which was super crazy and quite eventful...certainly memorable...and i was actually a bit worried that i would get nostalgic and sad about things, but this was an entirely different experience..quieter and rather cute. we all made dinner (i did the salad!) and sat around the table to eat. then we played a few rounds of spooky as hell pitch-dark hide-and-seek and one time i hid in this box and thought i was going to faint! we sat around the fireplace, ben and jake played guitar, everyone told stories...ghost stories, family stories, etc. we all made smores using skewers plus the fireplace, and then we cleaned up and played several rounds of uno, and then ben, nora, vera and i played sorry!! there was enough sleeping space for everyone and i shared the big huge bed in the big huge room upstairs with jake.
in the morning, we made breakfast, i sprawled out on the kitchen's heated tiles and read go tell it on the mountain, then played catch outside in the rain with nora (and definitely strained my shoulder!). ben and i headed out around 3 just as everyone else began a swamp adventure which apparently ended with each of them falling into the river. ben and i landed back in the city around 5:30. we promptly went to eugene's, where dave was also hanging out, and joy met us there. all of us, minus joy, played that guitar hero rock band game, and i felt like such a rockstar singing "hand that feeds" :) after this, dave ben joy and i had dojo's dinner, killed time at my place, and then went to meet up with charlie and others, ended up at crowded grassroots, and eventually parted ways...ben and joy left for philly the next morning from dave's.
sunday was calmer. i had my writing party with scott and nicole at the teaspot, and finished my lisa carver article. now to write the paul booth. in the late evening, i drove up to westchester to hang with a very high ariana (home from boston for the weekend) and cassie. we had a fun thai-food dinner and then walked around downtown white plains. i bought universe dvds in barnes and noble because shopping is the only thing to do in westchester, and then we attempted to gain access to this mighty bar, which we call "the blue room" because the building's lights are blue up there, on the 42nd floor of the new fancy shmancy saint regis hotel. at 10:00, it was too late to go up there though, and the guy gave us a weird look and said that next time we shouldn't come in jeans. ah well! we sat in starbucks for awhile and then walked back to the car, and the whole night was hysterical, but the funny things that kept happening wouldn't be so funny to explain.
i slept at home, drove back to the city on monday, actually went to the gym, did my homework, and then went to my writing workshop, where my story was constructively critiqued....i shouldn't say "story" though because now i am writing a novel ;) i have so much work to do on it. after class, i met up with nora and we got food and had a really amazing talk until 1:30am. love that girl. tuesday, went to work early, but got to leave a bit early too..walked home and then headed up to 145th street on the A to scott's harlem apartment for our productive multi-hour reading/writing party. i worked on the outline for my novel and scott acted it out! that night, twas last night, i slept like absolute shit....went to bed around 1, woke up at 5:30 and couldn't fall back asleep until like 9 am, after i'd eaten breakfast, and then i had one of my amy-fighting-amy sleeps where i dream lucidly and try to wake myself but then get pulled back into an uncomfortably heavy sleep. it was actually terrifying because i dreamt that i was watching my body and didn't want to go back in it.
today, despite the fatigue, i traveled by car to therapy and a wonderful acupuncture session, then traveled by train back to the city, then went to my lit seminar, came home, packed, and now nora's stopping by for a second, and then tomorrow is my travel-day, aaah!! can you tell that i don't travel much?
