If I'm blue, let me truly play the clown...

All I can say is that David said to both Chris and Myself ( on seperate occasions) during the audition process for Pippin...that I "could play any of the roles in the show, I deserved a role in the show, and that the only reason he couldn't give it to me was because I was not a Stonehill student", And he told Chris that he really wanted me ( Read more... )

HI darling. I feel terrible that this is happening to you!!! Whether or not I agreed with you being cast in Pippin (and heck, you did a great job and it was wonderful to see you up there) Pippin has nothing to do with a student directed play that CHRIS has full control over the casting of. It is horrible and I am so sorry! I am going to cross my fingers and hope for the best.
I did want to say, though, that whoever it was that spoke to Pat DID do the right thing by speaking to her. We are urged to go to Pat when we have any sort of problem, she is the one who is meant to make final decisions about important things that happen within the Company. Now, even if I think what they said is wrong, and Pat decideding that is wrong, I don't think it was wrong of that person to go to her with a problem, that is what she is there for.
Again, I want to say, that I am hoping so hard for the best for you- Jake's Women wouldn't have been the same without you in it and I know you will do an amazing job in Minotaur. I am sending all my good forces your way. Love and love.

Hmmm I'm sorry that you didn't agree with Pippin, I can understand why someone might not like the idea of it, especially if there were other people who were far better than I, and deserved to be cast. I honestly wish that David had just not cast me, especially if there were other people who didn't get cast and were talented enough to be in the show.
I understand that Pat is the person to go to, I think I'm more upset that she has that notion of people who complained about Pippin, so she can use it as a way of not letting me do Chris's show, because it IS so different from an actual STC performance...And also...There were only 5 girls who did not get cast in Pippin. Four of them were freshman, and I do not believe that they would go and complain to her because there was noone who knew that I didn't go to Stonehill until the first rehearsal.
I don't know, truthfully, aside from "ethical" reasonings...I think that she just does not want me to be a part of the show because she doesn't think I'm good enough. I've been in all of Chris's directing scenes, and if she thought I was good, I'm sure she would not be hesitant to let me participate in his show...Regardless, there is no way that Chris would do this show without me, so I doubt she will put up much more of a fuss.

I think that you being in Chris' scenes is an extra reason why you SHOULD be cast. You see, the way I see it, Pat should know that you are an actress that Chris clearly feels comfortable with using and has tried to use in many different ways. It is only logical that he would want to use you in his play. I mean, were there all these girls he didn't cast in Monotaur knocking down his door sobbing to be a part of it? I just can't believe that this is going to be an issue for you.
I hope you don't think that I didn't want you to be in Pippin because it had anything to do with you as a person, truthfully, the reason why I am so unsure about how I feel about guests to STC is because of what happened during Forum. I had to do all the clean up work and I had to listen to Pat be upset about it over and over again (I typed a little more about this in my response to Laurie) and it put me off to having guests SO much. If we decided to have an announced, public auditioning process at STC, I would be fine with that, in fact, I don't think it is a bad idea as long as proper attention is being given to Stonehill students, but I think it should be made an offical policy one way or another so that things like this won't have to happen again.

I think that had I been one of the men in Forum, I would have been just as angry at the concept of these other guys coming in and taking roles, especially when noone was informed prior to them being there. I don't know how the guys from Bridgewater ever found out about them being upset about it...But I'm sure they didn't try to purposefully put the outside people down in order to hurt THEM, but more so as a venting thing, because they disagreed with it so much. I think girls go through these type of things more than guys do, because I don't think guys typically "expect" certain parts, and I think that it was just a new experience for them to deal with, because their competition is usually so slim...Whereas women have to battle out so many other women for so few roles with almost every production they audition for. We are used to dealing with competition, though it still doesn't make women any less Bitter. If more girls came into Forum, I think the female cast members would have felt the same as the male. And I think that once again, they were cast for specific reasons...If they weren't needed, the director would not have wanted to deal with the process of getting them approved to perform.

during Forum there were actually an equal number of women who came and tried out as well. People of both genders made a reaction to there being there, and I think it would have probably gone over better if they just talked about it first, ya know. "We are going to open auditions this semester because we have a tough show which we will need some additional help with" thats all that would have needed to have been said. Again, I don't think that is applicable to your situation at all. I truly belive that Chris should be able to cast whomever it is that he wants and it really upsets me that this is an issue. If Pat had an issue with it she should have told him BEFORE anyway! Its like giving a kid a bike for his birthday and then taking it away and saying it wasn't safe.
