Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, Hanukkah, New Years and the Epiphany...

...but at least I made it in before Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

First off, what a great story that came out of NY today.  I don't know if as time goes on, more of the ugly side comes out but right now how amazing it is that the skill and quick thinking of a pilot coupled with a whole bunch of people working together helped to contribute to the fact that there are about 150 people that are alive tonight when by all rights they should have been killed in a tragic airplane accident.

We had a great holiday season.  Eric came home for a week at Christmas, and needless to say that led to a pretty awesome Christmas week.  We then went back with him to Germany.  I have to admit that Stuttgart itself as well as the Army base where he is living and working was rather underwhelming.  But after a couple of low key days where we recovered from the hecticness of December we got to see some of the city.  We then took a trip east, to see Munich, Garmisch and Innsbruck, Austria which was really very beautiful.  My favorite was Innsbruck, and maybe one of these days I'll post some photos.

We got back almost a week and a half ago.  Again, it was hard leaving Eric behind, but it seemed better than last year.  It was tough coming back home, and seeing signs of him around the house and knowing it will be another four plus months before he returns.  But we got back in our routine.  What also was pretty neat, is that he got a webcam to go along with the one we got here last month.  It really is pretty cool having a visual call.  It makes it a lot more personal.  What also is really very cool, is that today I booked a trip to Dublin, the weekend before Saint Patrick's.  He's going with some friends, and since the airfare was cheap, and Ireland has been on my list of Europeans country I've been dying to visit, I decided to crash the party.  It'll be a very quick weekend, as I'll only be there from Friday morning to Monday morning, and he'll be there even less - Friday night to Sunday night - but I think it will be a very awesome forty eight hours.  Since he's only going for the pub crawl aspect, I'll spend the day Friday before he arrives touring the city.  And then a quiet Sunday night all to myself isn't a bad deal at all.

Getting back on track, the first couple of days post vacation were spent recovering from jet lag, and the weekend was spent, other than the three hours lost to the Giants debacle Sunday afternoon, trying to get the house out of the post Christmas and traveling disaster it had become.  Actually, the time cleaning was done in between the hours and hours I spent mainlining the entire season of Rock of Love Charm School.  Hey, Rock of Love Bus had started, so I couldn't be two seasons behind.

Speaking of TV, the next 27 hours or so is probably some of the best television had to offer in months.  Tonight is the big CSI ep - so long Grissom, and thank you for almost nine great years.  However, I was quite perturbed to find out this morning while watching the Today show that George W. picked tonight to give his farewell speech.  We already lost Bones, and I hope CBS sticks with the delayed showing of CSI.

Tomorrow is Friday Night Lights and BSG.  I had refused to watch the first half of season 4 when it aired, and it only was due to insomnia while sick in November to even get me to watch some episodes at that point.   I finished the half-season last week and there is nothing like  seeing an apocalypse ravaged Earth to get me back on board.
