Ode to a great friend

I have this wonderful friend who manages to find the patience to listen to me even when I'm pretty much crazy, sobbing and irrational about the problem-of-the-day that makes my life seem so hard. She listens to me even with burdens and worries of her own that are much more significant than what is driving me to tears.

She is honest with me and allows me to be honest with her even at our most vulnerable points when we're both convinced that the rest of the world would probably never speak to us again if they knew what we were thinking/feeling.

She shares my love for second-breakfast, for coconut cookies, for global adventures, and for a chance to visit (whether for a few minutes or a few days). She is a kindred spirit who reminds me that even at my lowest points, I'm not crazy or unlovable.

I thank God for this friend, especially today.
