It has been a satisfying day. Sofia and I went to breakfast with the "church ladies" and then took a long walk around Trexler Park where she napped and I did some ruminating on my sermon for Sunday. We're doing a sermon series on different aspects of discipleship, and the theme for this week is "Service," a piece of following Jesus that I am particularly drawn to.Sunday will be a chance to talk about the kind of service that changes both the one who serves and the one who is served. Giving a can of soup for those who are hungry is great, and necessary, but what if you invited someone who is hungry (for food or for good conversation) into your home and heard their story and shared your own? THEN both are changed by it, and the world starts to look a little bit more like the kingdom. I need to unpack this more, but I'm excited to be going there with this congregation. May God work in their hearts that this word may fall on fertile soil.

Now, we're multi-tasking. Sofia is napping, I'm listening to the rice bubbling on the stove and journaling and getting ready to go to church for the after-school program.

These last few weeks, I've been super-busy at work with tasks that are meaningful to me--preaching, teaching, preparing for a mission trip to Costa Rica, meeting with other leaders and sharing ideas and dreams about the church. I wish that more of my weeks were like this, because I feel much more happy with my job and more ready to believe that I still have something important to contribute to this ministry. Ah well, I'll just celebrate the moment and hope for more of these weeks to come.
