Once again, braintwins, Caro, braintwins. I was trying to think of something to say to Amy about how I cringe too while reading my old stuff, not that I necessary hate it, but there are always a ton of things I'd like to have changed at the time because I've grown as a writer and my styles have changed. You put it just the way I was thinking in my head, but didn't know how to spit out into a comment. If you *don't* change over time, or feel that way about your work it is just like treading water. You're stuck in that same place doing the same thing over and over.
It's good to grow! (this comment brought to you by Sesame Street and the letter G!)
Anyway, I'll just shut-up now and point at your comment and holler, "THIS!" :)
Agreed. Obviously the Bradley brain needs to be in full use at all times while the intelligent brain stays in the jar. Insightful thought? Witty comments? Pfft. Never mind that, shirtless Bradley with his sex-scratched chest is on telly. Shhh! Must watch.
;)
Exactly, we're so very focused as it is on the characters/subject matter already that you absolutely *need* to try different styles or look at the subject matter in a different way otherwise you're on this infinite loop of boring writing. Although, when you try new things you get people that make dumbass comments about, "OMG! No quotation marks! Woe! Write me b-day fic, slash monkey! Write!" Not that I'm still bitter about that... ;)
Everyone needs a Merlin under the bed - and a half naked Arthur on top of the bed *nods sagely*
And nope, no one can tell me that Merlin wasn't under that bed for nefarious and sexytimez purposes. Nor can they tell me those chest scratches were not the work of one Colin Morgan on a trip through the Welsh countryside ;)
Oh! Yes! Gimme, gimme, gimme the pink/giggle/lick prompts, please! They're ever so creative and just get my muses all in a dither. I can hardly contain them they want to write, write, write! so much after such thought-provoking prompting. Now, on the other hand, if you can get some crazy, fun prompts or more detailed scenarios even, then I'm all over that. We need to keep our brains working, not just regurgitating the same ole, same ole (and look! I managed to get a bodily function mention in here. I knew I had it in me ;))
I guess what I meant by more "detailed" is just something beyond a one word prompt - at least a one word LAME prompt. What I probably should have said was an idea/sentence prompt. Something I can work with, and like you said, twist around a bit and have fun with.
Yeah, I did. And it wasn't even to the actual fic itself (my road trip one) The chick replied to another post and said, btw, LOVED your fic but it's weird not to have quotation marks (which, um, totally missed the point of the entire story then - there wasn't meant to be quotation marks it would've ruined the flow of the story and if you've never encountered a story where the author doesn't use quotation marks then you're not very well-read) and was all, why wouldn't you put quotation marks? Why won't you cater to me?
And thennnnn, in the same post asked if I still wrote b-day fic for people (and yes, her b-day was coming up within the next week or two) so what I got from all that was - Write, monkey! Write! Write for meeee!
(oh, and btw, when I actually did post a b-day fic for all the Nov. b-days guess who didn't bother to comment? um. yeah.)
Oy...just...oy and not cool. Sounds to me like she was just using the whole quotation thing to beg for fic. Not cool at all.
Honestly I hate it in regular fiction when authors don't use quotation marks/cap letters/ect but that's my deal and I don't expect the authors to cater to me nor do I get mad at them it's a stylistic choice that they've decided to make for whatever reason and I support it. I don't think I notice anything in the road trip fic though.
Yeah there's always a bit of frustration going back to something and it being at the past-the-point-of-no-return editing wise. I mean I could but at the same time it's a why bother kind of deal. Plus I left something out that I still wish I hadn't because it wasn't a case of not wanting to put it in there it was a case of too much time passing since watching the movie and getting to that point writing wise and completely forgetting about it. I mean it makes sense for it not to be there and it wasn't a major plot point but it still makes me sad because it's would have worked so well with the Orlando character and his real-life counterpart.
