I originally posted this in a comment, but maybe it's better suited here... might explain my love for this man a little better for some of you. :)

The day that I left Cairo, I was a complete and total mess. I was sobbing in the waiting area, which is pretty much unheard of for me, because the only thing that I hate more than crying in front of someone is crying in front of a BUNCH of someones. When it came time to leave, he told me he didn't think he could go past the passport checkpoint, even though he works at the airport. So when we got to the checkpoint he told me he loved me and I gave him a hug and tried to keep my tears in check as I waited in line to get to the bus that would take me out in the tarmac to the plane. I had managed to pull myself together by the time I got out the door to get onto the bus, and then suddenly there he was next to me, taking my bags for me and helping me onto the airplane. He had somehow managed to convince the airport security guard to let him out onto the tarmac, even though he was totally not supposed to be there. So he rode with me on the bus out to the plane, and I tried to enjoy my last few moments with him before we would be separated for months. When we got off the plane, one of his coworkers happened to be working out there. In Egypt there are very strict societal rules about the kind of displays of affection that are allowed in public. Holding hands is ok, cuddling or kissing or anything beyond that is not. It is especially taboo to do anything along those lines in front of friends, coworkers, or anyone you know professionally. Anyway, when we got out to the tarmac I was the last one to get on the plane, and he hugged (which is borderline acceptable) and then I started walking up the stairs to get on the plane. I turned around halfway up the stairs to wave at him, he was standing at the bottom with his friend watching me go up, and waved back. Just when I had reached the top of the stairs and was about to board the plane, I heard noises behind me, and turned around to see him running up the stairs to me. When he got to the top, he said "I forgot to give you something" and then gave me a big kiss in front of the flight attendants, his friend, God, and everyone. Haha. I was kind of stunned, and told him I loved him, then got on the plane... When that plane took off, it was with a smile on my face, not tears. :)
