Trial

So, it has started.

We are in voir dire. For you non-lawyers, that is the time when prospective jurors are questioned by both sides to find potential bias. The group is large, very diverse (Fresno is in the central valley: farm land). The median education level: high school. I have no idea who would make a good juror.

And one of the defendants is there. Mr. Landry. He’s young, he’s somewhat gangly. He has very close cropped hair and an “anthrax” beard. (The kind that is just the chin and about an inch long.)  This is the one who allegedly (among other things) took my 76 year Step-Mother into the bedroom, grouped her and threatened to rape her. He was leaning forward, engaged in the proceeding. Occasionally pumping his fist slightly whenever the judge said anything about presumed innocence. Huh. Whatever is wrong with him is not immediately identifiable. I don’t know.

Apparently I looked at him more closely then the others in the audience because he made eye contact then looked puzzled when I didn’t look away. I didn’t glare or frown. Just looked. When the juror pool had left I introduced myself to the DA. He was extremely interested, but I didn’t look at him again.

No revelations to report. No welling anger or anguish. Very puzzled. Of course, haven’t heard any testimony yet. I’ve never heard the whole story because I didn’t ask my folks to relate it.

Future updates to come if not revelations.
