We were sold on Conor for a baby name. Actually, we decided to keep the name a secret since we found out the sex. Dave's mom was driving us NUTS with "what's the name" followed by her guessing every name in the book.
When I was about 36 weeks along we went back home and visited my grandparents graves. I had always LOVED the name William (my great grandpa's name) and we decided to change Conor to William. We'd call him Liam. If he didn't like Liam, he could be Will, William, Bill, Billy, Lee etc.
The middle name, Alexander, we chose for a couple of different reasons. We have A as our middle inital, Alan and Ann so this way, we'd be DAB, SAB and WAB. Also, my grandfathers name was Leander. aLExANDER. Pretty cool, eh?
When we were walking around the cemetary we realized that once you're gone, all you've got left is your name. It's a pretty powerful thing, naming someone else. Our test was if you could put "Chief Justice" before the name, it would work. "Chief Justice William Bowman" works. "Chief Justice Aydyn Bowman" doesn't. KWIM?
That being said, I'm glad you picked a classic name rather than something "trendy".
