first off, i would just like to say that yesterday was great. me and will went running errands in our pajamas, which ended up being a huge tour of lincoln, including filling his prescription, stopping at the mill, going to numerous high quality parks that i had no idea even existed, going to the capital which was really cool actually, car shopping, wendy's to get my paycheck, and even union bank to talk to his friend. it was a really great day, and im glad i've gotten to spend so much time with will lately. afterwards, emmaly came over for a couple hours to practice marching music, then we went to the east band exhibition. i thought it was really good....there was a lot of difficult drill...i really liked how much movement there was. im really disappointed that they didn't have the teaching session...we were all looking forward to going down on the field to march. =0( after that was anna's going away party which was fun/sad...except for bill messing with the fire and burning things. besides that retardedness...it won't hit me for quite a while that she's gone...and others for that matter.
today was the first day of band camp/auditions. i woke up pretty early and visited my friends in their dorms. harper is soooo nice...if i lived in a dorm, i'd definitely pay $30 extra a month for it...i really liked it. shannon, chris, emmaly and i ate at chipotle then hung out in chris's dorm and met him roommate joseph who just happens to be a tuba player. we were all pretty scared at first because he had a cross on his dresser, but when we met him, he definitely wasn't religious, and he cussed and was sarcastic, just like chris...i think it might be a good match. so we registered for band and broke into sections to learn the new marching. it was actually really hard to learn at first...i kept wanting to revert to east's mark time and parade rest, but as the night progressed at memorial stadium, things definitely got easier....i have a problem with drifting when i mark time...i need to work on that, but i guess im not the only one with that problem. i started to get really into it at the end of rehearsal when i got a little more comfortable sounding off. things started to go downhill with the backwards march. my ankles hurt soooo bad, and so do my knees. their marching style is certainly more physically demanding than i've ever experienced...im just glad to be a part of a group that actually tries to look good. i mean, most of east did, and we were a damn good band and all of the exercises we did today, i've already done, but theres just more umph in it i guess. im very excited...especially for the vets to come back tomorrow in the afternoon. strangely, im looking forward to my playing test. is that weird?
luckily, i had several one-on-one conversations with my section leader, Alyssa, which will help. i already knew her because i got to sit next to her at Winter Winds, she's really nice. things seem to be going very well socially so far, even with the tubas! (for those that don't know, my sister was in the band as a tuba for 2 years, and unfortunately couldn't do it this year because of schedule conflicts.) anyways, they called her "killer." so, because i look like her (which i really don't), they call me "killer junior" or "killer-j"...i think the name Scottie came up once or twice because of my scottie dog shirt i was wearing. ha. everyone is just so damn nice...i love it. im anxious for tomorrow...i heard that Amanda didn't make the cut for drumline...i feel absolutely terrible. people that work that hard for what they do don't deserve that. i'm sorry Amanda....
its getting exceedingly more difficult to deal with the fact that i don't have a dorm room....i want one so badly, but in the long run, living at home will definitely be beneficial, both for me and my parents and their terrible financial situation...my mom's last day at work is the 30th. after that, we're screwed. health coverage...benefits....everything (including a major chunk of income)....is GONE. yeah, the Miles family isn't going to have much of a christmas this year, but hey, it isn't about the presents. i don't even need anything.
