wednesday--we've got this week licked...
ive been working outside for the past two days. we're extending the bottom two floors of a seven floor building into the backyard. starting with framing out the walls with giant steel joists on ten foot high rolling double scaffolds (about 10 feet up) and twelve foot ladders in the hard to reach spaces. ive never done anything like this in my life, esspecially in the freezing cold winter of death and destruction. its amazing. theres iron I-beams that connect the already existing building to a cinder block wall that will become the new back of the building. i play my little radio and we shoot steel pins to secure hangers that hold the joists with gun power actuated shot guns. i have to where ear muffs so i dont go deaf (i enjoy music), i dont wear the hardhat cos its so cold i have to wear a winter hat and cos i'm macho. but my hardhat is brite orange and hilarious. i totally am getting sick from not being dressed warm enough for the past two days and it totally fucking sucks. something has got to give. luckily if i s die i has school next week. house framing 2. during house framing 1 i was also sick. power saws, my ambition and comfort working with wood, and power saws. i think we're gonna learn how to do roofing and shingles, i'll get back to you.
