Things where finally getting less busy; after Chris got hospitalized Reid worked even longer hours helping out in the pediatrics department and also taking over responsibilities from Bob Hughes, so he could concentrate on his son his recovery.

Off course nothing ever happend as planned. Reid was not able to leave Memorial on time. A difficult surgery came up that could not be postponed. This surgery would require Reid his expertise and his very skilled surgeon hands.

"I was fifteen. My parents were breaking up again, that meant a lot of moving and screaming. My life was pretty much falling apart around me when I also realized I was gay. But being with me for the long run will mean dealing with possible kidney failure and the risk that I will become a drunk again.

"Two months ago. My kidney was healthy and theanti-rejection medicine is working fine at the moment, but he had some concerns about how often I had infections the lost year so he wants me to come see him as soon as I got a real cold". Luke explained.

"Very good, if you don't mind I would like to come with you at your next appointment. I would feel better if I can ask some questions to. But I know your doctor is in the top of his field, so you are in good hands." Reid put his hands on Luke his cheek. "I want you to be around for many years, please talk to me if you have the need to drink or if you feel a little bit ill. I want to help you. We are in this together."

"Don't be an idiot Luke; you were not hiding information from me. It just had not come up yet. You wanted to tell me about your kidney as soon as we got together. I just already knew. I understand it is not easy to talk about all of this. But I am glad you felt like I should know. That must mean you want to keep me around for a long time right". They chose the chef's surprise menu and Luke was right. Reid loved all of the seven plates of food that was put on their table. He even chose the wine menu choices from the sommelier with each course menu after Luke insisted that he should.

The different glasses of wine where chosen with the ingredients off every dish in mind. At first Reid was his usual calm self and listened to Luke telling him stories of his youth. From playing jokes on the servants in his mother or grandmother her house till stories about catching an escaped horse on his father’s farm?

After the third glass of wine Reid became all chatty and started talking about his childhood. About how he would correct his teachers in school and how he would help the boy next door with his homework when the boy was supposed to be babysitting him.

But the funniest stories where the stories about the year Reid’s parents tried to find a sport he could enjoy and let him try out in all the possible activities.  After a year of sport nightmares they were glad that he finally tried out for running tracks. As long as he did not have to jump over hordes he could at least get some exercise without hurting himself or any other players.

Luke had a hard time not laughing too much at Reid his expense. But he was also a bit relieved that apparently Reid wasn't perfect in everything that he tried to do.

After they enjoyed their last course even Reid was full.

Luke drove a Reid home who was desperately trying not to fall asleep.

When they entered their bungalow Reid was turning quite again. He took Luke his hand and just pulled him with him to go back to the roof. Luke expected him to walk back to the Jacuzzi. But Reid walked to the side off the rooftop still holding Luke his hand. He was looking at the moon for a while before he turned back to look at Luke.

Luke turned to face him “We need to talk, Luke.” Reid’s face was earnest and there was no glint in his eyes.

"I don't know, you just woke up and now you want to talk. That usually means something bad. Maybe you slept on it and being with a drunk with medical complications might not look so appealing any more".

"I don't get it Luke. How can you possibly think I do not want to be with you anymore?  Nobody is perfect.

I don't like that we have to go away together to findsome privacy, even though this weekend was great. But you got me hooked on spending time with you now. I don't want to have to wait as long before I can give you the bed and privacy you need before you put out again". Reid said while he playfully gave Luke a shove.

"As I showed you this weekend, I don’t need a bed and privacy. But yeah I would like the privacy part. At your place Katie comes in as quietly as she can hoping to catch us making out" Luke said.

"Yeah I know. And at your place there are too many people all the time, doyou know anything about renting a place in Oakdale". Reid asked.

"It depends on what you are looking for. Renting from a corporation could mean waiting between one or three years. Renting from home owners could go faster but usually you pay up to 15 percent more.

The buying market is good right now." Luke answered.

"Yeah but have we really known each other long enough to buy a house together".

"What; you want us to live together, Luke asked surprised?

"We don't have to if you don’t want to, I just don't see the point in having a place for myself where we can be alone together, but you still go sleep somewhere else. I kind of like sleeping with you. But I could get my own place where you just come over when you want."

"I haven't thought about living together because I did not expect you would want to so soon. But I think I would like to live with you. Maybe we should start with a private rent and evaluate after six months if we want to look for a different rented house or if we want to buy a house together. But if you need more quite time, I could spend some nights at my mothers or my father’s place. Take a step back instead of getting anoid with each other" Luke replied.

"Last year I would not have thought about living with anyone at all. But now that I managed to live with a baby and a chatty female I think living with a hot gay guy will be very easy. Maybe we can find a two bedroom place so we can make an office where I can do paperwork when all of Oakdale comes over to

visit you. Then I don't have to be polite for too long". Reid said to a laughing Luke.

"That might be a good idea, but I will keep the socializing to a minimum. When you are going to be the new chief of staff you might have to talk to a lot more people at the hospital than you would like".

Reid smiled at that. "I found a way to deal with most off the silly chit chat. Instead of having a secretary I managed to talk Bob into assigning me with an assistant with more responsibilities. He or she will make the schedules and other social and administrative task so that I can still run the neurology wing and perform the more elusive surgeries. Bob and Iwere planning to bring it to the board on Tuesday. But since it will be cheaper than hiring another head of the neurology wing, I don’t think there will be anyone disagreeing."

"What a great idea, I was wondering what would happen to the wing. I assumed you would be working twelve hour days to try and do it both. But this sounds great.

At that moment Reid his stomach growled. Luke jumped up. "I will put some bread in the oven".

Before Reid could say anything Luke was leaving the bedroom.

Last year he would have told anyone he did not do relationships. But looking at Luke's nice butt leaving him just because his stomach growled and he wanted to take careof him made him very happy to be in a relationship now.

But next time he would try his best to keep Luke in his bed for a little while longer.

Some things are even better than food.
