So I might be making a change in career. Nothing ever panned out with getting an office-type job, or with applying at banks, but one of my employees told me that Starbucks is hiring for management. I told her she could give the recruiter my name, and he called today. They sound like a good place, actually, and if I were to get the position it might ( Read more... )

They seem to really want me, and are offering me 30% more than Indigo (current evil employers) is paying me, even after working there 11 years.

I am off to Vancouver for the Holiday Forum, and I will be giving my 2 weeks notice when I am back on Friday, so it won't affect anything while I am there, and I can draft a polite way to tell them where they can stick it.

The head of HR for Western Canada actually told an assistant manager at another location that her recently departed manager was a "shitty manager who should have been fired at least 3 years ago" and "how dare you question your RM; he's the best in the company and if you don't like how he does things you should find somewhere else to work." That was the final straw for me. I used to love my job, and really believe in the company, but things like that (and the fact that they keep getting VPs to quit) make me question the leadership. Even a few years ago I never would have looked seriously for something else unless my health demanded it. But now? Yeah. Kind of glad to be going (and OMG TERRIFIED of new job, but it will work out, I'm sure).

Starbucks were completely "do what you gotta do" about my sitting and lifting, which was awesome, and I know a few people who have worked for them and all of them have nothing bad to say about the company (except the usual retail hours and retail pay complaints), even the ones who left quite a while ago.
