So work has been dismal of late. My new RM (new as in about a year and he still seems to take no interest in the smaller stores and does not understand we do not - and cannot - function like the big ones) actually has caused staff to comment things like "I have never seen a regional/district manager so clearly not give a shit about a store before ( Read more... )

I don't think I am asking for much, but with the current trend toward minimizing costs I find people are offering insultingly low salaries as a rule here. I can't afford to make less as a base than I am now, even if they don't offer bonuses, and I need certain things in terms of benefits (I need a crown done on 2 teeth and those are terribly expensive, as well as possibly a veneer on my front 2 teeth because wear is causing chipping so dental is a MUST). Vacation is provincially mandated at 3 weeks paid for salaried positions- where I am now I get 4, which I will miss, but I really only *need* 3, so I can go home twice a year & take a long weekend or two.
This applying for a new job is utterly terrifying. I have been with my company for over 10 years at this point, and I feel like if I leave I am dumping a ton of problems on someone else, which I feel guilty about, but I am so stressed out that nothing good can come of it if I stay for too much longer. I think if I still had my old RM it would be better because then at least I would feel supported by my boss, as opposed to this guy...
Most retail outfits here are looking for people ASAP so anything more than 2 weeks notice is a definite point against you as far as I can tell, but as this is an admin manager I don't really know what the expectations are. As far as my company goes, we can't seem to find a decent manager in this city so I know it will not be the easiest to replace me, unless they shift over the assistant manager from the other store (which is how I got the job) so they will want as much notice as possible. I don't really know how I would go about giving notice, as really the big reason I want to leave is I don't like my boss and have been complaining about a lack of communication and understanding of my business challenges on his part, and how do I tell him that is why I want to leave without burning a bridge there?
I have a written list of talking points prepared. I have done a million and four interviews for staff so I have an idea of what kind of things an HR person is likely going to ask (company wide we do behaviour-based interviewing so at least I know what that is and can tailor examples to fit the format) but I am still nervous - I haven't been on that side of the interview for something like 7 years. I looked at the position description in the job posting and found an example to use for each point, more or less, and a lot are very similar so based on what aspect they are looking for I should be able to come up with something. I also have a list of questions I have for them, and I did some reading on their corporate site so I have a bit of background, but I still feel underprepared...
