Neatorama's Photographs that Changed the World

Some blizzard coverage

And another one, more recent

People slept over at Costco. That's kinda cool.

This puppet show is put on by some coworkers of mine. Although they aren't the ones in the article.

Mild spoilers for Hunted (I'm making with the critique but not giving away the biggest stuff)

I didn't love this episode. It takes a lot for me to be disappointed, and this was a new episode, so that's pretty much going to make it a plus in my book, and I didn't really *not* like it...

The acting felt off, teh characterization uneven. Sam goes from raging to smirking by the end of the episode. Where was Dean's righteous anger at being left overnight? I dunno. Jensen Ackles was definitely not at his best, although I suspect it might be the result of him not agreeing with the direction of this episode. The Big Secret was a total letdown. I had pretty much expected something lame like that, but it was still crappy, especially after hiatus.

There were some bright points. I liked Ava, and the ending, with all the potential to come out of that regarding her situation. There were some bright spots with the dialogue. Pop Rocks and Coke, upstanding citizen, TJ Hooker (as if Sam could remember that - I'm 26 and I only saw it in repeats late-night on A&E a couple years ago, and I know from old cop shows to begin with). The music was different - not what I would have expected of SPN, but good nonetheless. I liked seeing Gordon back, and the way they tied off that I actually liked, because it clears the way while allowing for future episodes.

I wish we'd seen more of ElectroBoy. His story I was actually interested in. Kinda wish they'd saved his story for another episode and had some other reason for Sam to go to that town. Oh well.

Everyone else seems to think next week's episode looks lame. I kinda think it looks good, better than the previews for tonight. (Not the B&W Cash one, really, 'cause that was slick. But even it didn't sell me on this episode, and the real excitement for me was Katherine Isabelle (who I've liked since Ginger Snaps) and the secret reveal, which I was sure was going to be crappy, but I really wanted to know anyways.) But then again, I've already said I'm all about the Monster of the Week plots and not nearly so much for the mytharc. I love to read spec and whatnot, but I don't write meta on it, I don't write future!fic in this verse, I'm all about the gen here. I heart the Dean!angst, and the Daddy!angst of all flavours, but I'm content to see it develop onscreen in small pieces, and I feel this season so far has been lacking a bit in teh episodes. We're ten episodes in, and still around 40% about What Is The Demon Up To? Is Dean Cracking? What Is Up With Sam's Powers? I'm going, where are the cool critters? Can't we leave that alone for a week? Touch on it at the beginning and the end if you must, but please don't have them keep referencing it in the middle. Give me a true stand-alone episode, PLEASE.

And yes, I am aware that this may put me vastly at odds with the rest of fandom. And it's really funny considering last season I loved just about every episode, and it was Home/Asylum that got me fannish enough to search out fic on LJ. I dunno. Maybe I'm just feeling that they're not bringing anything new up, just rehashing the same old angst mine every ep. Feels a bit like they're hitting me over the head with an anvil, and I'm not stupid. I get it. Really. Can we please move on? Or deal with some of the issues? *sigh* I don't know. I still love my show, still squee over it, but I'm starting to get annoyed and starting to think that there are some better fics and fic-writers out there than staff writers. Anything and everything by big_pink, dodger_winslow, eighth_horizon, eloise_bright, janissa11, nilchance, poisontaster, stele3, maygra and a host of other people I'm forgetting right now, can be more emotionally resonant and satisfying. And I'm specifically talking about the gen stuff, too. There are some amazing slashers in the fandom, but I'm comparing the stories to episodes, and let's face it, the CW is not Showtime or HBO, so slash is left out of this equation.

Or maybe I'm just tired and cranky and dreading work tomorrow and taking it out on my show. Who knows?

In long and rambly conclusion, Sam got turned into a sparkly gay unicorn? Who knew Dean was into that? *g*
