This was so heartbreaking. I loved how it tugged at my emotions and I'm glad Tony didn't stay after Gibbs smacked him like that. Bad Gibbs!

Tony can frustrate the hell out the guy. LOL I don't think he meant to hit him that hard though but...what's done is done, I suppose.

Thank you for commenting!

Gibbs should have thought before he acted. Still, I can see how he would be completely frustrated with Tony. He doesn't reveal his true nature easily - he only does to Gibbs because Gibbs has wormed his way into his heart and he fully trusts(ed) him. Gonna be a long road back if this continues.

:) Thanks for the feedback!

OH. MY. GOD. You're quite the angst-factory, aren't you? I loved every word of this. You have so many insightful touches, lovely sound and rhythm, great themes, and awesome little emotional sucker-punches, but very fitting ones. Your characterization seems effortless..
"No one, not even you, touches me in anger."
Ridiculous fail-safes.
Such lovely words, Amy.
Poor Gibbs really can't control the bastard in him and it made the kiss even more heartbreaking because it too was as sincere as it gets. And Tony's need for attention has its limits as well. Never the twain shall meet. I think this is more the way it would really be. :-( I love your writing!
"Your timing sucks" is SO Tony. And very intriguing. All the sudden it's like it's admitted. This seemed very real too. This IS a literally perfect one-shot, but I find myself wanting to see that road back. I think the potential is there.
Cacks :-)

LOL 'Angst-factory'. I swear this was not what was supposed to happen. It was gonna be a PWP scene so I'm not sure what happened or why it turned out this way, but I like that it did.

I could totally see this happening and Gibbs being stunned after Tony walked out the door. His 'Hail Mary' just failed miserably and not only did the man he cares about walk out, but he also lost his SFA - right hand man at work.

And Tony - finally getting the attention he wanted but in the wrong way.

These guys make me crazy! LOL

I also loved Tony's acting out and everyone getting it but Gibbs. Bless Tim and Ducky. I sensed some frustration with the canon here. Remember when Gibbs 'got' that above all? Sad.

A lot of frustration with canon. While I enjoy the McGee/Tony friendship, I miss Gibbs being a part of Tony's life. It seems he doesn't want to be, maybe? They just don't talk anymore. Gibbs never picks him to go into the field as his back up or he assigns Tony to go with someone else. I wonder if he's pissed about Tony going after Ziva and lying to him on that video call...

I really wish someone could get Gary Glasberg's ear on this. It's been an arctic freeze for a long while. Now it is especially disheartening bc there is no credible reason for it. They have new dynamics, and as we see in Once A Crook: "I'll trust you anytime." Well that is pretty cold comfort for Tony fans and for Tony when Gibbs doesn't even LIKE him. I wish GG could understand how much is missing from the show when there is nothing natural or pleasant going on with them. Just an inexplicable coldness that borders on dislike and hostility. Why wouldn't he be a part of his life? That was always such a nice backbone running through the show and made for wonderful bits of dialogue, humor, and byplay in case-work and in friendship. With that missing, they have strayed into weaker and more improbable territory with others, unnecessarily. Makes for some lousy eps and some boring as fuck characterization in the absence of the one relationship that actually has legs. There. I said it.

And I don't think it could have been said any better. The "I'll trust you anytime." comment felt like a bone thrown to starving dogs. It was more like the "You'll do" kind of comment though it had been so long that Gibbs acknowledged Tony, viewers like me lapped it up. I just keep hoping that they will find their way back, or find a happy medium with two strong leaders so that neither is forced to be the weaker set. Gibbs deserves his role and Tony deserves acknowledgement of his growth - can they serve together and show that?
