While I don't have a lot of money to spend on it, I am wondering if there's a way for me to purchase a cheap laptop computer for the purpose of working on my script ( Read more... )

Laptops tend to be fragile, and when they break they are hard to repair, also batteries on a used unit are likely to be in sad shape ( ... )

Hey, I didn't say "don't do it" I said "be careful" I am not a "just say no" kind of guy.

If I were looking for a cheap used laptop, I would pick the Compaq ARMADA 7400 from Ginstar http://www.ginstar.com/productList.aspx?category=41.

6.5GB hard drive, 128MB RAM, 366Mz Processor. Not a half bad machine. I would load Mandrake on it, with Open Office, not worth the money for Windows (even if I liked Windows). For $329, you would have a very functional system. If the battery died you con get a new one for $51 here: http://www.pricewatch.com/1/291/1835-1.htm

But you can usually plug in most places.

Not a dime. They are both free (Open source) applications.
