always a silver lining

so, after my car was towed to the auto place, they discovered that my thermostat was broken, so it wasn't registering how hot is was and therefore not opening the coolant valves and activating the system. great. so they replaced the thermostat, and among other problems, found out that my coolant fans were broken, which would have cost another 600 dollars, plus waiting for a week so they could get in the parts. we said fuck it and decided to just get the new car now. my car is drivable, but just not for more than a few miles at a time or it will overheat. Also amazing, as they backed it out of the garage, the check engine light came on and the air conditioning started working. wtf. the car is possessed. in fact, the auto place nicknamed it "satan" and also "the beast." excellent.

So, I'm getting a new car tomorrow! or i guess later today! So excited!! We are getting a 2007 Rav4, which is exactly what I want. In red. hallelujah. it will be so nice to be able to drive around in a car with A/C, a working stereo, with working windows, that doesn't make a screeching sound whenever you turn right. I'll try to post pictures at some point. that will require me to figure out electronics, but i'm sure i will manage.

my mom drove me down to the grandin concert yesterday evening at CCM, and then we stayed for the first three quarters of the lakota/elder game, which was also at UC. I didn't realize when i signed up for grandin that attendance was required. I managed to get out of several concerts due to gigs, teaching, class, etc, but there are still a few that I need to attend. I don't think I'll be going tomorrow night because I'll be buying a car!! anyways, the concert was good, the game was pretty lame, but my mom and i had fun and had some good dinner afterwards.

actually got a lot of practicing done today. I am hoping to pair that with some more tomorrow and some great reed work. This contra that i'm borrowing is amazing. I finally got to do some work with it today, and I feel like there is hope for this audition. If i can really buckle down and kick my ass, i might have a shot. Also on the agenda this week (besides bassoonfest) KYSO rehearsals and concert, as well as my first official day of teaching up at UD. I had meetings with my students this past friday, but this coming friday i am teaching lessons, reedmaking, and performing at the music school-wide performance class. oh lord. way to jump right in. Plus this weekend is jared's birthday and the WEBN fireworks, so I'm sure it will be an amazing time all around.
