my stigmatism

It's almost Pi Day, which is when my mom passed away, and i am remembering my mom as i start to write this entry because she was the first person who taught me the word astigmatism. Because she had it. And i didn't. The context was a question about why her contact lenses had a line on the bottom and mine did not. Apparently people with astigmatism ( Read more... )

I definitely have different prescriptions in each eye. I've known that for over a decade, but the doctors always said that the prescriptions were close enough that it didn't matter too much to just pick the middle value and use them for both eyes.

But something definitely changed when switching to the astigmatism lenses, because those were not only different magnifications in both eyes but also different angles... And i think ever since switching to different prescriptions for each eye i haven't been able to see normally any more. Now that i have gone back to "dumb" regular glasses with same prescription and no astigmatism, i still can't see clearly.

The weird thing is that this time around the eye doctor eventually got frustrated and just let me twist/alter the various lenses myself, and i realized that no matter what i did, i couldn't get both eyes to see clearly at the same time. It was either one eye clear and the other one not, or vice versa, but never clear together. I don't know if my eye muscles have somehow learned to focus differently and don't function properly as a unit any more, or if i got some kind of injury or damage? Either way it's really annoying.
