I read the news every day. Any given day in my life you can be sure of two things. I will drink coffee and i will read the news. In reality i think the only way flying cars would work in a city-like environment is if they weren't human-controlled at all. Although in a vertically-dense city you could probably just as easily bind the vehicle to cables or rails, there's no need for untethered flight. I guess the most sensible use case of a "flying car" is as a personal shuttle that could take you into orbit faster than a space elevator, but then why not do it more efficiently as mass transit?

I guess we would need a truly magical energy source to make personal flying cars worthwhile. Or a completely different environment where staying aloft costs very little, like outer space, or the upper atmosphere of Venus. Now that'd be a sweet place to zoom around in a little solar powered dirigible!

I think for people who don't go to raves or festivals, going to something like Burning Man could bring a rare sense of wonder and awe at spending time in a temporary autonomous zone surrounded by artists who are trying to create a spectacle. For people who do go to those sorts of events regularly it's just a bigger version of the same thing, which to me feels a bit boring, but i guess it has the same appeal as going to an international sporting event or a blockbuster movie premier. I think for some people the scale makes it feel more exciting or more grand, more of a destination than a local warehouse party or pop-up exhibition.
