bread alert!!!

Sep 11, 2022 17:44

Today it was pouring with rain due to typhoon Muifa, which is coming hot on the the heels of recently-passed typhoon Hinnamnor. Neither of them really hit Taiwan, but we got a lot of precipitation, which is a good thing because on a tropical island you need the rainfall to fill up drinking water reservoirs.

So instead of going out on an adventure to celebrate the end of my quarantine, i decided to go to 家樂福 Carrefour and try their baguette.

It was 39元, which is a bit over 1€. And. You guys. It was good!

I ate the first half with some Spanish olive oil i also picked up, and one of the tiny packs of salt i stockpiled from my visit in Geneva.

I ate the second half with some of my leftover marinated 豆乾 dry tofu, drenched in a new chili oil i found. I carefully scanned the ingredients lists of all the chili sauces, oils, doubanjiangs, gochugangs and sambals, till i found one that had 花椒 Sichuan pepper inside. And finally i got to taste that numbing and spicy 麻辣 mala flavor that you can find in noodle dishes all over China but is much rarer in Taiwan and round the rest of the world.

Folks, i am thrilled. Bread and chili sauce. This is truly a grand day.

Tomorrow i need to go to immigration before work to update my listed address to my home address. Then hopefully Tuesday morning it'll be off to a skin clinic, probably the one at 臺大 hospital. And inshallah this fucking itch will be on its way out the door by next weekend.

food, my boring life
