I think your setup is the dream! In particular if you have found a place where you want to settle down and have a longer term lifestyle. It's difficult to do this in a foreign country due to work visa requirements (usually demand full-time work)... I have to say that i feel like Brexit really destroyed a lot of opportunities for me, in the sense that it used to be anywhere in the EU could be a potential home for me, but now only places where a company will sponsor a visa could be home.
I wonder if working at a low level in some kind of government office or NGO would make me happier? I find that the higher up i get in a company, the more i find things about it that annoy me. In particular the moment my job starts to have anything to do with money, i just start to feel revolted at how the whole system operates. I think i do best either being on the front line helping actual customers or working in an "engine room" somewhere making sure things keep humming along. Once i get emotionally invested in product development or strategic decisions i am almost always disappointed.
