When i first got to China i spent a lot of time comparing it to Germany too. I think it's pretty normal when you move a lot to look back on places you lived before and try to identify the things you liked and didn't like, and contrast it with current experiences. So, in that respect, i don't think China is special. But i think that the realization i had yesterday was more a sense that i don't feel "done" there. I still have a connection that didn't just disappear after i left. In that sense it is different to places like Australia where i lived over a decade but where i don't feel any emotional link or drive to return.
I think in part of constructing my identity as a traveler, or a wanderer, or whatever, i started to have this cynical view where like... every country is the same, every country has good and bad things, i can live wherever and it doesn't matter. And i still think that way to a certain extent. But if i am honest about my emotions, and places where i would actually prefer to spend more time - for whatever reason - that is a much shorter list than "all of the countries".
