One of my Spanish professors is in Medellin, and he actually said in his opinion in his city, the scams/tourist traps are pretty low. Cartegena is a tourist trap though. I've been looking at going out to Santa Marta which is a few hours east of Cartegena as it's close to really big NP, and has good surfing. It's also home to one of my favorite Colombian bands, so I am a bit biased in my interest.

I think Freelee is still vegan, but her way of vegan is kinda wack. She definitely has some issues. I haven't seen or heard from her in a long time, but I know she made a bunch of videos where she attacked people who were big YouTube vegan influencers who become carnivores. She was pretty angry. Seems like a very unbalanced person to me in a lot of ways.

Side note, I think being a YouTube "influencer" has gotta really suck. You get judged constantly by everyone in life, but online it's even worse. Add in the stalking, the constant comments about your appearance, the general meanness of the anon-internet community, etc. Yuck.

I hope that Colombia has better food for you, and turns out to be more exciting. I am planning on going there sooner than later. I love Mexico, but also figure I'd go to Colombia too. I'll live vicariously through you until then.

Yeah, Santa Marta is on my list as i bumble my way along the coast. They have a multi-day hike there to a lost city in the jungle which sounds pretty cool, although pricey. My plan at the moment is Cartagena, Barranquilla, Santa Marta (y tal vaz la Ciudad Perdida) then i really want to visit la Guajira because i love the desert... But i want to make sure i'm confident traveling in the country first, and also that there isn't any paramilitary actions planned. This week the ELN announced a week of action, and last night they blew up a bridge, so i guess it's good i'm reading the newspaper.

From what i hear Medellín is sort of the cultural capital. Just looking up the electronic music scene here it seems it's really mostly centered in Medellín and Bogotá, plus the odd show in Cartagena that seems super touristy beach club kinda thing. We'll see. So far i just wandered around to buy a SIM card, some coffee, bread, avena... That wasn't too harrowing. The streets are narrow and colorful and a bit shabby but not dangerous. It feels pretty much the same as towns in Southern Europe (Spain, Italy, Greece). Way more European than Panama.

And, yeah, i agree the life of a YouTuber would be pretty shit. You're kinda pressured to put out content once or twice a week, and i think the fans are more entitled because your content is theoretically exposing your "real"/personal life more than a traditional entertainer. I know they can earn a bunch of money, but it's not a job i'd want to do.
