I mean pretty much all of us will vanish without a trace, forever and within very few years, so you’re just calmly embracing reality. Entire religions have been constructed on denying this one basic fact.
Was wondering about your current town when I read of the fires. Don’t cycle anywhere risky.
'People will say i just floated around and disappeared, not like a dandelion seed that makes a new flower, but like a flake of wildfire ash that just melts back into the dirt, as if i was never there at all.' - This is a beautiful sentence.
'The things you own, own you' - That was always one of my favorite lines from Fight club, and it seems you do well in not letting things own you. It will make your upcoming travels far easier! I'm looking forward to reading about them.
I'm also guilty of the habit of investing a lot of money into certain hobbies. I get into collecting, and then sometimes my interest passes or I get annoyed with all the stuff I've accumulated. I think it's easier not to be too invested in anything.
Whenever I come to Japan (study abroad, homestay, work, etc.), we're always warned about all the natural disasters that could occur, and since living here again I'm supposed to have an emergency bag ready in case we're ever evacuated. It seems unlikely but you never know. That said, I don't have one prepared.
The weather there seems rather brutal. I hope it's not too destructive... It's almost astounding what the heat is causing in certain areas.
Yeah, i've lived in a few places now where theoretically i should've had a go bag, but i never actually made one. I feel like if there's ever a moment where i need to get out with 2 minutes notice, and i don't even have 20-30 minutes to pack a bag, then i'm probably dead anyway because i don't have a car to drive away in! That said, it probably is smart to keep a few "survival" things in your house regardless, like a few liters of water, some canned food, something that stores electricity etc.
