This evening as i was winding down my work day, i heard a clatter outside. I craned my neck out the window and, sure enough, the cops were collecting up the fencing they erected around my village back on February 1

This is a heartening post to read, this morning. Having an idea of “how long this lasts” is immensely helpful, psychologically.

I’m so grateful for lj as a tool to make this kind of sharing possible...and for you, for your regular and detailed updates, which turn out to have done a lot to help me mentally prepare for this. At least our “lockdown” is mostly voluntary, and with no cops or fences.

Sadly it turns out they haven't really lifted the lockdown, although despite the fences still being there, society is starting to get back to normal. Starting next week my office is no longer separated into different shifts - everyone can come into work as per normal, and facemasks are only "recommended" (downgrade from mandatory). I think two months is a good expectation for things to at least get back to some semblance of normal, even if it's not all the way there yet.

The propagandists around here are telling each other that the pandemic is a hoax to trick the liberals and socialists into their homes, so the Trump-led military can knock on doors and kill the unbelievers. Apparently they are all ready to paint their door with lambs-blood so the army knows not to kill THEIR god-fearing/god-saved lives!

They say that the President calling a national emergency (rather than calling it a hoax, like he did 4 weeks ago) is just phase two. They even know how long 'the cleanse' will last and are ALL READY TO HELP!!

It's interesting, i don't watch any American cable news, and all of my friends are leftish, so i haven't heard any of these weird conspiracy theories in my circles. I mean, i've heard conspiracy theories like "this was a bioweapon created in a lab" and "don't trust the government when they come to you with a vaccine", but that's just garden variety hippie stuff same as in normal times.

I think that might be why it takes me by surprise when some of my friends make these furious posts on social media about how terrible everyone is being... I don't see any of the terrible people, so it seems like they're lashing out unreasonably.

My mom moved to the mountain tops for her retirement,... thinking only lefty crunchy hippies like HER would want to live off-grid in the forest with the bunnies, deer, and wolves.

NOPE.

She is surrounded by racist, gun-toting, god-fearing, Trump-loving, illiterate families who are just waiting for the government to collapse so they can finally kill people without having to worry about what anyone has to say about it....
