Thank you for this insight! Italy is already in that lockdown place, here in Germany people seem to still believe they are not THAT much in danger. In Italy, there is a lot of social media attention about China sending masks and disinfectants and breathing apparatus to the Italian people and how all other European countries are evil, only China cares for Italy. THis is just one example, there are hundreds...
The weird thing about this crisis is that most people aren't in that much danger. If you're healthy and young, or even middle aged, the odds are low that anything bad will happen. So i can understand that some people are resistant to taking draconian measures.
I'm interested to see what the CPC will do as it spreads beyond Italy. The depressing thing is that they are already using the crisis to drive propaganda. As i mentioned on the post, Xi has already claimed victory, and the next phase has been to have rich party members like Jack Ma give "charity" to evidence just how heroic and selfless the party is. Of course other governments do the same thing, but with the CPC it's more worrying because they are using their growing global influence to export tools for dictatorship like self-censorship and "internet sovereignty".
