Metropolis at dusk was a remarkably peaceful place. It always had been, actually, but since Clark had started patrolling Metropolis about two months ago, the crime rate had plummeted. He flew between the skyscrapers, scanning the ground in the fading light of the sunset, but Clark wasn't expecting too much in the way of trouble.
He flipped onto his back, staring up at the first bright stars that had come out, and listened. The city hummed underneath him, the sharp crackle of electricity and car engines blending with the rise and fall of thousands of human voices. Clark smiled a little, feeling serene. Which was why he was caught by surprise when something slammed into him at an extremely high speed.
He tumbled through the sky, righting himself about sixty feet above the ground, and looked up to see what had hit him. Whatever he was expecting, it wasn't the small squad of human-shaped robots that he found staring down at him.
