175 Years

This school year, Denison University celebrates its 175th year as a university--don't ask me why 175 in particular is so special (apparently, we have a celebration every 5 years), but nonetheless, I think it's pretty cool that Denison's been around so long. The first class [and I'm sure it was a pretty small one] enrolled at Denison in December 1831. And the dinner that the dining halls are serving tonight is supposed to be similar that of the meals that people would've eaten way back in 1831. I suppose we're going to celebrate our anniversary this whole school year, seeing as our 175th was technically in 2006, but that makes sense, because it was almost 1832 when students started attending Denison. And back then, it was a Christian college, and I'm glad that the sign in front is being changed -- the "Christian college of liberal arts" slogan is being taken away. Sure, the majority of students at Denison are Christian, but Denison's certainly not a religious school. Like many other colleges, it was founded by a particular religious group.
