Dear Yuletide Author,
Hello! And thank you so much for taking the time to write a story for me. I'm going to write a bit here so that you'll be able to get to know a little more about me and what my likes and dislikes are. That being said, I'll be grateful that you wrote a story just for me no matter what you write. These types of letters are always a little hard for me, but I'll put in whatever I can think of to help you decide what kind of story you'd like to write. I'll start with my likes and dislikes and then add a little about each fandom I've requested afterward.
Likes: Characters are my big thing. I love when characters are real, solid, and three dimensional. I love watching them express, in action or speech, their feelings-love, anger, fear, friendship. Show me what makes a person tick, and I'm right there. I've always been about the characterization, and I've been known to forgive a show or story anything plot wise if it gives me believable and heartfelt character interaction. Besides good characterization, I like: interaction that feels real and not forced or over the top, simplicity, the amazing little things that makes up normal, everyday life, strong women, love in all shapes and forms-romantic, friendship, family, pretty much anything that shows people care for each other. As for rating, it can be anywhere from G to NC-17/mature, as long as the characters are treated with respect, and either romance or GEN is fine, too. Tenderness is a big thing for me, as well. If you can write a beautiful story that shows and doesn't tell and that is believable, I know that I'll love it.
My dislikes: I don't really like slash in most circumstances (though there are exceptions). I like stories of all ratings, but I don't really like the sexual stuff you have to warn for--rape, incest, kinks, fetishes, torture, etc. My tastes are about as vanilla as they come. I don't like character bashing, and cruelty is one of my squicks, so please, none of that, especially towards animals. Oh, another thing I'm not really a fan of is over the top syrupy stuff. The constant barrage of "I love yous". I'd prefer to see it not hear them say it over and over. Give me subtle and heartfelt over gushing declarations any day. I'm not really a fan of stuff written in the present tense or the “five times” style, either, but these two things are more of a stylistic preference than a strong “DO NOT WANT”. If those styles suit you best and you write a story using them that's heartfelt and well done, I'll still be satisfied.
Now that the general stuff is over, I'll say a little bit about my specific requests. I'm going to reiterate what I said in my sign up and try to add a bit if I can think of anything that I missed.
The Librarians:
I'm a big Eve and Jake fan. I love them as friends, and I love them as a couple. I like both of the incarnations we've seen of them on the show. The first season finale made me ship Eve/Alternate Jake pretty hard. (So hard, that I wrote a story where Eve went back to his universe, they saved the world, and they fell in love.) I'd like to see pretty much anything of any mixture of these characters, whether it's Eve/Jake, Eve/Alternate Jake, or Alternate Eve/Alternate Jake. (Even Alternate Eve/Jake, if you could figure out a way for them to be in the same universe). I'm open to both friendship or het for these characters, and you can go with whatever type of story you'd most like to do for this. Action adventure? Yes! Hurt/comfort? Yes! First time? Yes! Hidden love and angst? Yes! One saving the other? Yes! Whatever your little heart desires for this, I'm game for. Make it fun, make it sad, make it angsty, make it heartwarming, I'm up for it all, including any rating from G to M. Have fun with it!
The Belgariad/Malloreon:
I've been thinking a lot about what I'd like from this story. Since the Belgariad was told entirely from Garion and Ce'Nedra's point of view, there is something I'd really like to see that was never shown. Of course, I love Polgara and Durnik, and I'll love anything you write, especially if it's from during The Belgariad. What I'd especially love, if you can get it to come out, and you don't think of something you think I'd like better, is Polgara and Durnik's wedding night, particularly from Durnik's point of view. Here is this woman that he's loved in secret for fifteen years. He hasn't been allowed to show it or to touch her unless it was necessary for all that time. Now, he's married to her, and he's allowed to touch her. What would that be like for him? I don't think there's anything else to say here. Even if you don't go with my idea, I'd like the story to be something loving. After all, their love was what saved the universe.
Stephanie Plum series:
I'm not sure what I want here. Something fun, maybe? I love them most when they're having fun. As with the rest of this stuff, any rating would be fine. I'd prefer happy to angsty, I think, but that's pretty much the only guideline I have.
The Nanny:
I'm open to anything with these two. Any kind of story. Any rating. I just love reading about the two of them interacting together. It can be funny. It can be sad. It can be anywhere on their very long 20 year timeline of knowing each other. I especially love sexy with them, but you don't have to write sexy. Whatever you come up with, I'm sure I'll love.
Well, there you have it. Thanks again for writing a story for me! I'm looking forward to my gift on Christmas morning.
