Jace Wayland was bored.  This rarely computed to a calm night for any resident demons in the general New York City area, because he had only had one solution to true boredom for as long as he could remember.

Hunting.

Of course, aimlessly meandering wasn't nearly as much fun as having a target in mind, but luckily Izzy had been spending plenty of time hanging around the NYU grounds lately, thanks to some fling she was having with a warlock who worked in the library or something.  Jace certainly hadn't been about to press for details.  Which didn't mean she hadn't supplied them, in an incessant chain of chattering to both him and Alec the entire week, but he was pretty adept at tuning her out after all these years.  It was just one of those defense mechanisms evolution equipped older brothers with: even adopted ones.

Thank the Angel for small favors, he thought to himself, as he made his way through the path that wound through the central courtyard.  There were a few mundanes out here, who would jog past him every so often, listening to headphones, easy prey for hungry demons, and completely oblivious to the fact.  None of them spared him a glance, however: he had himself too well glamoured for that.  Human eyes would slide right off of him, as if he'd never been there.  Which allowed him to be decked out in full Shadowhunter gear, comfortably in black from head to toe, with a few handy weapons slung from his belt, and a trusty pair of seraph blades tucked there as well.

Izzy had said something about an Eidolen - a shapeshifter demon - that the warlock had claimed was responsible for the disappearances on campus.  Might be hard to spot, considering that looking normal was what shapeshifter demons did best, but Jace was equipped for the occasion.  In his hand was a black sleek device with no screen, and buttons labeled with runes that he could read as easily as letters of the alphabet.  It shuddered slightly as he walked, and a smirk etched its way across his features.

Bingo.

He waved it slightly through the air, noting the direction in which the vibration increased, and then slipped it in his shirt pocket, hand settling around the hilt of a blade as he stepped off the path and into the trees.  No sign of mundanes around here, so he let the glamour slip away, so that the demon would see him coming for what he was.  More fun that way.

Movement to the left caught his eye, and with keen senses, he moved after it, silently as a cat, slipping between bushes, and tightening his grip on the weapon...

He stepped out right behind the shapeshifter, eyes glistening, and drew the blade, which was clear like a crystal, cut like glass, its hilt studded with rubies.  He could have just stabbed her right then and there, but there was no sport in missing an opportunity for a witty one liner.

"You know, I'm pretty sure sign-ups for Mundane Slaughter 101 closed two weeks ago.   You're gonna need to get a signed permit from the Professor."  He twirled the blade between fingers, then added nonchalantly.  "Oh wait.  I already shanked him."  A cocky grin made its way onto his features.  "Better luck next year."
