I’ve entered NaNoWriMo this year! I’ll be expanding on the world that I created several years ago in a short story called “Connections.”
Here’s the Synopsis that I posted:
In a world with direct neural network connections, Thomas Rhymer wants to make his living as a painter. He moves to The City to seek his fame and fortune, and finds a username instead. He dreams of painting masterpieces that move grown men to tears, but spends his days struggling to keep his website spam-free.
Plugged in, he and everyone else has all of mankind’s knowledge available with but a moment’s thought - assuming you’ve got good signal, you have the latest pop-up blockers, your firewalls are intact, and your brain won’t throw a runtime error because your software was written by a bored teenager who never updates anymore because he’s discovered Girls.
But assuming none of that happens, you totally have access to everything that anyone has ever said…and the flamewar that followed.
I’m also going to post daily updates through my website - which means, because of the way that I’ve set the thing up, that I need to post a photo every day to go with the writing. My plan is to photograph the view from where I’m writing, or do obsessive technology macro-photography shoots, to go along with the theme of examining the way we interact with devices.
If you have any other suggestions for images that I could take, or other ways to get involved in NaNoWriMo, I’m all ears!
