i've been watching a lot of news on tv while i've been here in florida and something they were talking about today has me really hot and bothered. they keep talking about this new poll that came out showing that hillary clinton probably has a better shot at being president than anyone thought and that one of the reasons is because she is "moving to the right" and on fox news at least they are talking about that like it's this great idea and that the reason that the democratic party is "going off the deep end" is because they refuse to move to the center.

that's fucking bullshit. the reason that the democratic party is fucked is for a miriad of reasons that i couldn't possibly pretend to know the extent of, not the least of which is that they thought that john kerry would be a good presidential canidate. the last thing that the democratic party should do should be to neutralize their positions. can you imagine that we live in the united states and we're on the verge of, in the 2008 elections not having one of the major parties take an intelligent, open minded stance on abortion and gay marriage? i seriously can't even express how angry that makes me. we live in a country where there's supposed to be a fucking choice, not a political party that grovels at the feet of whatever the polls say that people want. i'd be very happy to vote democratic for the rest of my life and each time have my party lose by a massive percentage if i was voting for a party i actually believed in. it's bad enough that i voted this year for a canidate that wouldn't take a hard stance on abortion, gay marriage, the war or anything else that i actually give a shit about, but the fact that i might be looking at voting for a canidate who has practically the same beliefs as the opposing party is straight up disgusting.

not to mention how revolting i feel that hillary going right would be for the clinton legacy. you're talking about the only president of my lifetime who i can stand behind and say that i respect and now you're talking about his wife of all people turning her back on what he stood for, for the sake of getting elected.

bill clinton got elected because he was a charasmatic figure and john kerry was beaten because he's a stiff. al gore, possibly an even bigger stiff almost won ( well, you know ) even in all his stiffness. the american public DOES have enough of a percentage of people willing to vote left to elect a liberal democrat, but they're not going to do it voting for a presidential canidate who flip flops ( kerry ) and isn't willing to take a hard stance and differentiate himself from the other canidate ( kerry ).
