Big Bang Theory Series Rewatch - Pilot

I've decided to rewatch the entire BBT series since I've been losing interest in the show this season. Granted my interest has been renewed a bit thanks to the new Penny/Amy friendship, but it's still below where it used to be. I'm hoping a full series rewatch will jump start my love of the show again or at least help me understand exactly where ( Read more... )

I was going to totally agree that it should have stayed more cult-ish, but then you brought up that it may not still be around and now I almost feel bad for thinking it but I think I'm glad it moved away more if it means we still have it. Because no matter what happens with it, I know I'll always love or at least like it because I adore the characters too much to ever abandon the show.

I'm surprised you gave it a B. I did see it as a 17th or 18th impression of the show, so for me it was more like "wow, Sheldon...oh, it's Penny! Howard, that is so something you would say" but seeing it as a first impression I know I wouldn't have liked it at all. But then I just remembered that this wasn't your first impression either.

I've always had that opinion that they acted more like college people, and for the same reason you think so, so we're at least still in sync on that!

"So right off the bat, this series is unrealistic. Entertaining, but unrealistic."

The only things I'm going to say about this, because you didn't say it was a bad thing, is 1. I agree and 2. Zombies. ;)

First: You should've commented on FanForum so we can have discussion posts and activity over there! :P

Second: Yeah I know I would've been crushed if BBT stayed cult-like and awesome but had been canceled after two years. And it's not like the quality has completely gone downhill. It's just not as good as it was or could be.

Third: The B is taking into consideration that this was a Pilot. If it had been any other episode, I would've given it somewhere between a C and a B-. But you have to watch pilots differently than other eps. The writers are still working out who the characters are and what the show is. Actors are still learning to work together. Everything's up in the air. So the grade is based more off of series potential and the chances of me continuing to watch the show more than pure quality of the show. I definitely would've watched episode 2 just from this pilot. No show at that point in time had made those kind of math jokes. ;)

And the Pilot was my second episode, first full episode. My first impression was the second half of Tangerine Factor :)

Finally: I have never claimed Community was realistic with its stories! (And if I did, I didn't mean to). I've only claimed that Community is realistic with its characters and reactions and relationship dynamics and developments! Which it is. The only other show that nails its characters as consistently and realistically is Parks and Recreation. But no, neither show is necessarily more realistic than Big Bang Theory.

I did comment on FanForum. I just typed it here first so I could quick copy and paste before the site bumped me out.

My family never sticks with comedies after their pilots. I try, but the channel almost always gets changed. :(

And I know. I just had to get that in. :)
