Army Life

May 03, 2009 10:13

So, for those of you who don't know, my brother joined the Army about 8 months ago.  He signed a contract for 3.5 years active duty and 5 years reserve.  And since he's colorblind, there were only two jobs available for him, infantry and transport.  So he signed up for transport... and drives one of the HETs.

He hated BCT (Basic Combat Training) and AIT (Advanced Individual Training).  But he finally started liking Army life when he got to Fort Riley, and started the real work.... well, semi-real work (he just started driving last week, so up until then he was doing drills and playing errand boy for his CO.)  Now he's actually doing his actual job.

Well now he has decided that he very much enjoys his work, and has decided that he is going to reenlist after he goes overseas  (Right now, he thinks that he is going over sometime in January/February of next year to assist in the pullout.)  I asked if he was thinking about going into Officer Training first, but he said that he actually wants to work his way up to it, and become a Specialist first (which is set to happen before he goes over.)

Needless to say, we're all a little shocked--never thought he would enjoy it, let alone decide to reenlist.  I think it is a good thing.
