The trip to NC was great, I'm glad I got to spend time with lots of friends and family.
A few trip highlights:
1) Got my fill of Neomonde, Eastern NC BBQ, and Sweet Tea, yum!
2) My grandmother has Alzheimer's and you never know if she's going to talk much, and if she does talk, you never know if what she'll say will be good or bad. When she saw Nick she said "Oh, Nick! You know what I just LOVE about Nick?" (we all nervously said "What is that, Mema?") and with a big smile she replied "His DIMPLES!"
3) Nick's great aunt Marie from Australia was in town for Alex and Andrea's wedding. Nick and I got to spend a good amount of time with her and I really enjoyed it. She is an interesting lady with a lot of great stories. We also learned more details about Nick's family history and how they all got from Russia to Germany, then split off to Wisconsin and Australia.
4) The wedding was beautiful and everyone had a great time, though I must say I'm glad I didn't have to be in a dark grey wool suit outside in the bright sunshine and 90 degree temps... but the groomsmen all handled it well.
Returning to Seattle
On the 5 hour flight back to Seattle there was a screaming crying child. Now, a screaming crying baby I can understand, the baby doesn't know what's going on when ears start popping and the plane shakes a little, and there's no real way to explain it to him or her. But this was a child, a little girl old enough to walk and to form complete sentences. Nothing her mom said or did could shut her up. I can not imagine having to deal with that, I don't think I would survive if I had an uncontrollable child like that.
Seattle-Charlotte Comparison
Yesterday my team at work attended the Seattle Mariners Baseball game in celebration of meeting our first quarter goals. I had a good time, but it was a little bit strange sitting there at an afternoon game in June and thinking the weather feels just like an evening Panthers game in late October or early November. But honestly, after the heat and humidity I endured last week, I'll take Seattle weather over Charlotte just about any day.
