The Unbearable Lightness of Being

Just finished reading this book:

It is a scary, scary book. Kundera holds nothing back, and one is often startled by the rawness with which he reveals truths which are hard to digest. And although we don't like to believe them, we know that they cannot be completely dismissed either. These grains of truth I tell you! So annoying. What I liked about the book is the portrayal of love - the love of Tereza and Tomas causes them immense pain and suffering, but it is their Es Muss Sein! (it must be!)  The awareness that love is not a constant state of happiness or even joy, but has its ups and downs. Loving someone is made up of alternate phases of being crazy in love with them and being very frustrated with them. But love has that Es Muss Sein about it. And, unlike Kundera, I believe it is worth it.

In other news, I am down with fever, and I am thoroughly fed up with myself. So frustrating. And I am tired of the many things I have to do. This is not a good way to start off the year.

But today evening was beautiful. Thank you to everyone concerned :-)
