Employment blues

The health system for which I work is switching over to a comprehensive EMR (electronic medical record) gradually over the next year or so. It starts with their clinics, including the one where I work. In about 2-3 months, my job as a medical transcriptionist will be made obsolete. I either have to find another job within the system or I will have to look for a job elsewhere, neither choice one I relish. In order to be in compliance with Obamacare, all health systems will need to switch to this EMR or one very similar. This means medical transcription as a profession will be going the way of the buggy whip maker at the start of the automotive revolution. Since that is primarily all I have done since I was 18, this is causing me a bit of anxiety.

I have applied for a job as a transcription quality coordinator in the hospital medical records department. Since there will always be a need to ensure the quality of whatever it is the doctors put into the medical record, this should keep me going for another couple years. Unfortunately, I'm fairly sure they have someone in mind for the position already and are just posting the job because it's required.

Anyway, I will keep looking and try not to get too stressed out.
