Hey, it's a vile beast update

We went to the vet today to see about why she wasn't eating. I took the very helpful advice from my previous post and Friday and Saturday attempted to bottle feed (Petsmart no longer sells syringes) a mix of 10 ML pedialyte with a bit of chicken babyfood. Got more on me than in her and only managed about 1/2 before I couldn't hold her any more. But, she did start drinking on her own after that, which she had stopped on Friday. So, that's since Wed without food and Friday morning without water. (But I was bottle feeding her liquids as of Friday night.)

So, off to the vet this morning to see about why she quit eating and drinking, where they did bloodwork and found nothing wrong other than slightly elevated liver and kidney levels, which are both a result of the hyperthyroidism. I have to wait until tomorrow to get the results of her T4, the number we watch for the thyroid. He gave her intravenous fluid and a shot for nausea, as well as an appetite stimulant. Now, if you haven't eaten in 3 days, I wouldn't think you'd need a pill in order to be hungry. So, as expected, that's done nothing. At home, she went directly under the bed, came out once for a few seconds of drinking, and went under again. She's currently out and I shut the bedroom door, so now she's hiding behind the chair where at least she's accessible without having to G.I. Jane myself under the bed.

Her Vile Beastiness is at the lowest point ever. She had a moment yesterday when I was trying to sweep her out of the bed with the broom and she purred when the broom nudged her and did not move. But today at the vet, we waited in the examination room for 30 minutes for the blood test to come back, with instructions for her to stay on the table. She tried to get off three times, each time I stopped her, and she stopped. She has never stopped from doing something she wants to do.

I am glad that it seems to be an effect from the radioiodine, which will wear off. Some cats do have tough times with it, and not anything more serious like kidney or liver failure. I guess I'll keep waving food at her and if she doesn't eat, forcing it into her, and hope that eventually she'll get a clue and start eating again.
