Out of Fandom Celebration

May 22, 2009 18:33

Out of fandom celebration: these are all podfic I've done for authors who have left fandom, sadly this often means they're not possible to contact. However even though some of these people haven't posted in 6 years their work has been a very important part of my fandom experience that I'd like to share with the rest of you. If you want to count the points to Amplificathon, fine, if it doesn't work that's fine too. These are people who as far as I am able to tell, cannot be contacted.

Title: Winged

Warnings: None
Summary: Surreal

I first read this fic back in 2001 on fanfiction.net. It inspired me to go read everything by Poppy Z. Brite as it starts with a very interesting quote from one of her books. This piece reads like a dream, lyrical and surreal. It's beautiful at the same time as it is uniquely strange. I enjoy the flow of the words, and getting out my dictionary to make sure that I knew what all of them meant when I first read it. It's beautiful and haunting and one of my favorite pieces in the X/1999 fandom. I don't know who the author is or was. I saved it to my computer back then and later searches have turned up nothing on ffn or the net at large. If you know how to contact the author, as with all of these I'd love to know how. In the mean time I hope you enjoy this beautiful piece of work.

Title: A Land Without Flowers
Author: Zillie
Reader: Rhea314
Fandom: Gundam Wing
Pairing: 2x1
Rating: PG-15
Warnings: None
Summary: winner of best ficlet in the 2002 **a little piece of gundam wing** fanfic contest, introspective angst-ness
Text: here
Length 7:06
Mediafire Link: here

Zillie was the first author I ever read in Gundam Wing. A friend of mine discovered the Geology fic, followed by Roadtrip (with the black beetle of death and not-subtle-gayness) which are two fabulous stories I highly recommend, both longer than this one. However this is a beautiful ficlet and while Zillie is listed as "out of fandom" by the Raygunworks site and hasn't posted in a very long time, leaving us with no conclusion to the quite amusing and enjoyable Zucchini fic, I still encourage all of you to go read her fic. I hope you enjoy this podfic, as one small piece of a lovely body of work from an author who has, hopefully, moved on to more profitable means of creative expression with the knowledge that their contribution to fandom is still loved and appreciated.

Title: Lorelei
Author: Dan Wilde
Reader: Rhea314
Fandom: Gundam Wing
Pairing: Listen and find out
Rating: PG-15
Warnings: weirdness
Summary: Death is a fact of life. But sometimes dying depends on your perspective. ^_- The song used is 'The Old Ways' by Loreena McKennitt
Text: here in archives under author's name: Dan

Lorelei by Dan Wilde published back in 2001 was one of the first femslash stories I ever came across. It's an exquisite story, at times melancholy, but achingly beautiful none the less. It was through this story that I first began to love Relena as a character, something the fandom as a whole with it's 1x2 anti-Relena paranoia much denied me. Dan Wilde hasn't updated since 2005, but I feel this story is timeless. It's a gem in a genre of many wonderful works. This story, to me, is the perfect essence of what this relationship, and fandom as a whole can do when given the characters and the time. I hope Dan Wilde is aware of just how wonderful it was for me to be able to find this story, and how much fans continue to appreciate this work.
